YouTube - Then All The Rest
47After YouTube, Who Are The Other Players?
YouTube is in a position a bit like Digg in the bookmarking space - they are far and away the #1 site when it comes to unique visitors each month. With over 50 million unique visitors in June 2008 (an increase of over 34% from the year before), their count is bigger than their next 10 competitors COMBINED. Pretty big lead.
Time will tell if some of the sites in the next tier explode onto YouTube's radar (now owned by Google of course, which never hurts when it comes to tech).
Here are the next 10 on the list, ranked in order of unique visitors for the month of June:
2. Photobucket 25 million
3. Imeem 10 million
4. Veoh 6 million
5. Break 3 million
6. Metacafe 3 million
7. Videoegg 2.7 million
8. Jibjab 2.5 million
9. Dailymotion 2.3 million
10. Blinkx and Crackle 2.2 million
Usage of video sharing sites, in terms of unique visitors, is running at greater than 140 million per month. One note of interest -- for the sites we've been able to document and track (over 150), total unique visitors a year ago for those sites registered at 153 million, which is a little counterintuitive, conidering the popularity of online video. Some of the usage could have moved to the social media sites that aren't tracked separately, like MySpace, AOL, Yahoo Video and Google Video.
Nevertheless, it doesn't look like video sharing is going away any time soon.
