Your Business Is Your Baby

I was having a conversation with a woman who said she wanted to start a business. She commented on the amount of amount of hours I put in. She said that when she starts and runs her business she will have more of a balance than I do.

While that sounds good, its not really feasible. A business is a separate organization that grows. You have to think about it like a person. A thirty year old person is not an island and cant completely function by themselves. That same thirty year old person should be able to handle their self in most situations. A business is the same way. Once a business has its systems, procedures and other requirements necessary to run. The owners of these businesses have the luxury of being absent (absentee owner), if they choose.

You have to look at starting an entity like having a child. When you bring that infant home you cant ignore her and expect her to grow into this wonderful, adult citizen. Just as you cant expect to file the papers to create your business and it will grow into a profit producing machine. A new business requires a lot of time, energy, resources and money,

So while the TV shows and the movies show these "9-5 entrepreneurs" you have to know that its not the case. People who don't want to sacrifice more than 40 hours in a week may need to rethink starting a business.
