It seems that in Charlotte North Carolina the burglars have figured out a new way to rob your home, and you are making it easy for them.

They are breaking into vehicles and stealing the garage door openers and the registration to the vehicle and they are on their way to your home. With these two items they have everything they need. Your address and your "key" to get inside.

Once they get to your home they open the garage door, and park inside while they rob your house. No one notices them there because their car is in your garage safely hid from neighbors watching. They can load their car as full as they want and then just drive out of the garage with your stuff hid. No one will notice how much stuff they are taking from you, or even if they have taken anything.

There is no glass to break, there is no need to even break down a door. They just drive into your garage.

This is becomming a popular way to burglarize a home in Charlotte, there has been several already and it is increasing every day.

There are several ways that you can protect yourself.

Locking your car will stop some theives, but not all. They can break into your car and get what they need quickly.

Taking your garage door opener with you when you leave your vehicle is one way to do it. Just slip it in your pocket or your purse when you leave the vehicle.

Keep all mail with your address on at home. Don't leave it in the vehicle.

Get a home burglary alarm system and tie it into your door leading to your garage. This way if they do break into your garage they can not get the rest of the way into the house. While you may be robbed of some things, you won't lose everything of value that you have.

If you choose to keep your garage door opener in the vehicle, don't put it in the usual place which would be the first place that they look - above the sunvisor. Hide it under the seat, or between the seats. Don't leave it out in plain site.

Talk to your neighbors that stay home during the day. Tell them what vehicles have access to your home, and that if they see any other vehicles to call the authorities.
