If you want a new puppy then good for you, but you need to do some thinking. Do you have enough money? Do you know what breed you want? and much much more. A dog costs around a thousand dollars per year and dogs usually live for around 12 years. Keep in mind small dogs tend to live longer then larger ones. If small children are in a house you will probably want to get a dog considered a family breed such as a golden retriever or something else like that breed.

Some things that you will need for you puppy are a collar, leash, tag, dog brush, food, food and water bowls and maybe healthcare pills. If you are adopting a dog from a shelter they may supply you with these things. You may also want toys such as a tennis ball or frisbee. You could also get a dog bed. Those items probably cost a lot and you will have to deal with vet bills.

A dog is a lot of responsibility and you will need to train him or her. There are different types of training, the kind like sit, stay, come and others like that and the kind where you teach your dog not to jump up on things or chew on you brand new expensive shoes. You also have to walk your dog or puppy pretty much every day.

If you train and socialize your new puppy he or she will be a greet companion to you and/or your family.
