Smoothies

A delicious glass of fresh,thick,creamy fruit beverage,which makes a great snack,meal or a recovery shake from a hard workout.Depending on what you choose to put into your fruit smoothie.

Recovery shakes are smoothies which are high in calories which contain soy milk or protein powder.

Fruit smoothies have become a health food trend in the recent years,its an increasingly popular way of having fruit and so a good way to get more fiber in your diet and the yogurt and milk added to your smoothies increases your dairy intake.



The basic smoothie recipe

Smoothies can be made in different ways using varied ingredients;

  • Fruits (frozen if you don't want to add ice): the most popular smoothies consists of bananas and strawberries.
  • Thickener: Ice, Yogurt or Vanilla ice cream.
  • Liquids (help to blend the smoothies easily): Milk, Fruit juice or Water.
  • Extra ingredients used can be Sweeteners, Cinnamon, Vanilla extract, Honey and Protein powder (used in recovery shakes)

The ingredients have no exact measurements and can be added according to how thick, creamy or sweet you want your smoothie to be. You can make your smoothie with 1 part fruit, 1 part liquid and 2 parts thickener, for a thick and creamy smoothie and add more liquid if you want it a little less thick.

Finally put all your ingredients into your blender or smoothie maker and blend away! until smooth.

Recipes of some of my favourite smoothies

Banana & Peach Smoothie:

1/2 cup Banana

1/2 cup Peach

1/2 cup Apple juice

2tbsp Milk

Honey as desired

Ice

1tbsp protein powder

1 cup yogurt

Squeeze of lime

Variation: You can add Vanilla ice cream instead of the yogurt and minus the ice.

Mango & Peach Smoothie :

1/2 cup Mango

1/2 cup peaches

1 cup Milk (chilled)

Add Honey to your level of preferred sweetness

A drop of Vanilla extract

Variations: You can try it with only mangoes or try adding passion fruit instead of peaches.

Papaw & Pineapple Tropical Smoothie:

1/2 cup Papaw

1/2 cup Pineapple

1 cup Yogurt

1 tsp lime juice

Honey as desired

Ice

Raspberry & Blueberry Smoothie.

1/2 cup Raspberry

1/2 cup Blueberry

1 cup Yogurt

1/2 cup Ice

Yummy Chocolate Smoothie

2 scoops Chocolate ice cream

1 scoop Vanilla ice cream

500ml Milk

2tbsp Milo

3tbsp Chocolate sauce

Making your smoothie at home is healthy because you know whats going into it.There are hundreds of smoothie recipes and its easy to make.So get out the yogurt and the fruits of your choice and start making your own version of a Smoothie!
