Yummy Thai Recipes for Vegetarians:

Thai food is famous all around the world. Originally, Thai-cooking ingredients were seafood, plant and herbs. Traditionally Thai cooking methods were baking, stewing & grilling. Frying, stir-frying and deep-frying were introduced by Chinese food influences.

Rice is staple food in Thailand & only sweet-smelling Thai jasmine rice is used in Thai cuisine. Majority of Thai dishes use lots of Thai chilies, lime juice and lemon grass & other herbs. Several kinds of Curries, green, yellow, red, also stir-fry’s & deep-fry’s. Curries are served with rice or over the rice.

I am answering this request made by “countrywomen” for Thai recipes for vegetarians. I hope you will like the recipes.

Original request from “countrywomen” was for 5 recipes I will add more as soon as I have some time.

Please enjoy these Thai food recipes recipes until I add more. Feel free to ask questions & if you don’t have any questions please leave your precious comments.

Thai Tom Yum Veggies

This recipe is originally “ Tum Yum Goong” Thai Shrimp Soup very famous dish. I modified it’s ingredients to make it pure vegetarian recipe because one of the ingredients is fish sauce.

Ingredients for

32 Oz or 500ml water

2 Cut the lemon grass into 3-inch pieces & pound it with hammer to bruise it to release the fragrance

4 Pieces of kaffir lime leaves

1 lbs or 500g white button mushrooms (slice it in small pieces)

4 Thai Green chilies chopped

½ tsp salt or add more according to your own taste

2 large limes (squeeze their juice)

Few cilantro leaves chopped

Preparation for Thai Tom Yum

Boil water in a Wok or a pot Add lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, sliced mushrooms and Thai chilies, add squeezed lime juice. Remove lemon grass stalks and kaffir lime leaves. Sprinkle few cilantro leaves & serve it hot. Please add any other veggies like, Carrots, Peas or whatever you like.

I don't like food that's too carefully arranged; it makes me think that the chef is spending too much time arranging and not enough time cooking. If I wanted a picture, I'd buy a painting.  Andy Rooney

Thai Eggplant & Basil Recipe

Thai Eggplant & Basil Recipe was modified too, this recipe Thai's usually make with Catfish, Beef or Chicken. This is only one way of making "Thai Eggplant & Basil Recipe". There are several different recipes & those are made with, Red curry, Green curry & Yellow curry pastes. They make these as dry or with coconut milk. I don't know if you can buy these curries plus other ingredients & herbs in your area or no. If you can I will add other recipes too.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb Thai eggplant cut into 4 pieces ( Substitute for regular eggplant if Thai eggplant not available)
  • 2 Thai green chilies chopped ( You can add more if you want it more spicy )
  • Soy sauce Or ½ tsp salt or add more according to your own taste. Only one item not both because soy sauce is salty too.
  • Fresh basil, chopped

Preparation:

Fry the garlic on medium heat in oil for 2 minutes or less just make sure it's not brown or carmalized . Because Thai's do not make the garlic brown like you do when making Indian dishes. However, Thai's use roasted garlic in most soup dishes.

Now Add eggplants, soy sauce or salt, green chilies and allow cooking for 5 minutes. Add the basil, and cook until eggplant is done. Please add any other veggies if you want to improve the taste. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Kako si Tatjana,

You can try these recipes too if you are not afraid of spices. I can eat mild spices but few year's ago I can't eat spicy food. You can adjust the spices that’s not a problem. Thanks for the thumbs up.

I visited your new hub about dating & clicked all the ads. Wow, it's great very well researched & well explained. I didn't make any comments because it's going to be very long comments & today I don't feel I can do that but I will return.

Love, Light & every thing else above your expectations.......

Hi Bkcreative,

Well I don't need to say any thing about Thai food because you visited Bangkok, therefore you know there are lots of choices for food & shopping in Thailand.

I visited Thailand several times most recently I was in Bangkok this summer for five weeks. I guess you are English teacher right because last time you told me you lived or visited Tokyo too.  Enjoy your "Tum Yum" today.

Hi Countrywomen.

Welcome back I tried to fix the recipe and in the process I have to reduce some ingredients. You can modify it according to your taste. I was going add Padthai recipe because it is one of the most popular dish.

I will also add other popular dishes. I am thinking that may be I will make a seperate hub for popular beverages too. Very soon keep watching.

I am eagerly looking forward to padthai and hopefully also Thai iced tea. I guess I have to go to Thailand for authentic Thai food as even in US one of my friend who has been to Bangkok says they don't serve as authentic Thai food as they do in Bangkok. Glad to know that you have Thai connections to treat us all to authentic Thai recipes.

Don't worry this time it will be soon. I will let you know because I will be making a new hub for popular dishes. What ever they cook in restaurant it's not real Thai food. Yes I love Thailand very much.

Hey,

Cool info. My favorite for Thai is the "nam-tok". Last time we went to the Thai restaurant in my neighborhood, my parents loved it. Well, they loved "nam-tok" that is! They only liked nam-tok and the deep-fried whole fish. They didn't like the other dishes they ordered since it was their first time there.

Hi Vietnamese!

Thanks for your visit again. Nam-tok is ok but I like whole fried fish too.
