Gorgeous DALMATIA & ZADAR - my home - Gallery
79
From last year, I live in Zadar, 3000 years old town on the coast of Adriatic Sea (gorgeous part of Mediterranean Sea in Europe), in the part of Croatia which is called Dalmatia, from ancient Roman times.
Dalmatia is certainly most beautiful part of my country - misterious sparkling sea with thousands of island put like pearls into it, shining sun, romantic coast full of stones and rocks, which sea, winds and sirens passionately use to play the most enchanting songs of the nature.
Wild rocky mountains jealously protect Dalmatia from the rest of the country, - here is the world of palm trees, agaves and pine trees which grow on the red soil (terra rosa). Here is the world of many shining intensive colours (due to the strong sun and many sunny days) which make you feel alive and content. Here is the world of gentle fragrances from the sea, aromatic herbs which grow in the rocks, world where winds are free to play their games, tenderly whispering in the palm - leaves , or wildly crushing seawaves on the mighty rocks.
Mother Nature gave to Dalmatia her beauty in pure abundance.
From early childhood I dreamed to live here, whenever I look at this glowing blue-green sea and proud rocks and mountains, I can feel just pure happiness.
Zadar was very destroyed during the Second World War and at least half part of it was build after that. But still new parts and old ones create the harmony under the hot Mediterranien sun.
All these pics I took in previous months, and I really hope you will like them.
Sea organs - listen the sound of wind and waves in popular sea organs in Zadar
Island Pag
Island Pag is very strange island - majority of it are just naked white rocks, due to the strong wind from mountain Velebit, which blows the salt from the sea on island. Despite that, is very popular place for tourist.
Island Pag
Island Ugljan
Nice, romantic pitoresque island across the town of Zadar. Wild beaches, many small villages full of surprises, traditional style of life still preseved in combination with tourism. Ugljan has many interesting paths and small hills for biking and walking.

Town NIN
Nin is very small, romantic and historically very important Croatian town: it was seat of first Croatian Dukes - Princes (rulers of Dalmatia) - 7 Croatian rulers in the middle age were crowned in NIN. It was also place where bishops of Nin were making extreme effort through the many centuries to preserve Croatian language and protect if from latinisation (replacing with Latin language).
Now is beautiful place where old buildings and churches keep the memories on the part of challenging Croatian history.
It is situated 17 km NW of Zadar.

Island Vir
This island is during the summer completely crowded with tourists, and so peaceful during the rest of the year.
This red gorgeous clif with the beach is the most interesting part of it which I have seen, I was astonished when I discovered this perfect view.

NP KRKA - Krka river, Croatia
Few miles far from town Zadar are also two beautiful National Parks:
one is part of the wild and innocent mythical mountain VELEBIT, NP Paklenica, and the other is beautiful NP Krka, where the nature created amazing scenario with greenish blue river, woods and stones...
Mountain Velebit
Mighty mountain Velebit, my dream from childhood, where the nature is mostly untouched is my favorite hiking place, my passion, the place where I learn about life letting the forces of nature teach me directly.
More really amazing pics of the nature on Velebit, are in my Hub: http://hubpages.com/hub/MOUNTAIN-VELEBIT-NP-Paklenica-Croatia

Yes, Michelle, I will, with pleasure....
Wow, breathtaking. I would love to visit. Perhaps you could do a hub on the traditional foods of your country. Then all you would have to do is send me a plane ticket. LOL
He, he, Paper Moon, Croatian traditional foods are really delicious.
The problem is - I am vegeterian, and majority of meals are with meat, so I cannot write about them.
Many thanks for your comment and stopping by.
Beautiful pictures and Beautiful country you guys have. It rivals Greece in my opinion, would love to visit Croatia someday and hear the Sea Organs in Zadar personally. Beautiful. Cheers :)
Thanks, Cgull for your visit! Greece is not very far from Croatia, so - if you come, you can visit the both countries... I would be glad to meet you here.
Cheers....
Tatjana your pictures are beautiful and inspire me to visit croatia. I am wondering if september/october has good weather?? also do the islands near zadar have good beaches and cheap accomodation??
regards, mark
Hi, Mark, the weather in September and October is much warmer then it the continental part of Europe, still warm, we have a lot of sunny days. Prices are much lower then in the midddle of tourist season, so no problems to find very affordable and very quality accommodation, especially in September. In October, there is not a lot private accommodation available, because people close their appartments, and basicaly only hotels are open, what means - higher prices. So the best is - to go in September!!!
I would recommend you two options or to stay f.E. on island Ugljan, or maybe even better to get accommodation in Zadar and use fery boat when you want to go to the islands. On that way you can see the most and change places where to go - every day.
For me, the best beaches are wild ones (like that ones in my article: http://hubpages.com/hub/adriatic-coast
but everyone has his own taste. We have many varios types of beaches (even few ones in Zadar), so you can choose what you like.

Wonderful pictures, Tatjana-Mihaela. I always enjoy pictures of far-off places. When I worked in New York City I often stopped at the little theater in Grand Central Station where they frequently ran travelogues. I stopped there frequently. Unfortunately, I rarely get to see the sites in person. Dalmatia and Zadar look like nice places to visit.
