Time to plan that sweet 16 party! A sweet 16 is a very special time in a girls life. The party can be semi-formal, casual, or formal. It is up to you. You can have a house party, dinner party at your favorite restaurant or have a large affair, like a wedding where you rent a place and hire a DJ. I have come up with a theme for you. Hopefully you like it for your special day. Most girls I know love butterflies regardless of age but this hub is specially for those turning 16. There are even celebrities like Mariah Carey that have chosen the butterfly as her favorite symbol. They really are beautiful and feminine. There is a show out there on MTV called "My Super Sweet 16". They have some over the top ideas but we must be realistic and stay within a budget. The main costs is your venue, food, and DJ. Once you find a reasonable price on these three items then you can start to see how much extra money you have for the actual theme. I have presented in our photos some ideas to do for a butterfly. You can be very creative and run to a craft store and create small butterflies with sequins, gems, rhinestones, ribbon and whatever else you may love for your centerpieces and table decor. I think as a cute addition you can create a board with photos of your friends and family and stick on butterflies you have created. You can even have a board to make everyone sign and leave a sweet birthday message so then you can keep it for a keepsake! Another recommendation is to have alot of greenery to make it like a forest feel with the reception with having butterflies in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors to make it FUN!

The next thing you want to start jotting down is your Sweet 16 candle list. This is a tradition to do at your ceremony. I have provided a run down of the candle ceremony to help you get started with which candle represents whom.

• 1st is for the parents
• 2nd is for siblings or grandparents
• 3rd to 6th is for the rest of your family (Aunts/Uncles,etc)
• 7 to 14 is for chosen friends
• 15 is for your best friend
• 16 is for a special guy in your life, like a boyfriend or a best friend

You can have a 17th candle and that would be an inspirational candle. Also one for good luck! Once the candles are lit then everyone joins together to sing Happy Birthday! You can have candles placed in the cake or you can have the candles placed in candle holders around the cake. There is a father daughter dance but sometimes it is not always done. You can have a special male figure in your life also dance with you if you like. Those are the main points of a SWEET 16 party. The DJ will ensure you all have a great time.
