Speeches are used to persuade someone to do something or can be informative. When giving a speech you can be teaching something to someone or persuaded them not to do this or that. They can be used in school, college, or at your job. There is plenty of topics out there to choose from. You can tell that by watching the news and see what is going out around the world or nation. Ideas like immigration, war in Iraq, gay marriage, bullying in high school, drinking and driving, terrorism, robbery, or any other hot topic. All these ideas would be great for a speech if you present them right. Here are some steps:

1) Make sure you always make eye contact with your audience. Always look up and look at the people, even if you are reading from a piece of paper. It is important to use eye contact because the audience will not be listening to you if you do not use it.

2) Sound loud and clear. Nobody wants to hear a speech where you can't understand anything.

3) Be informative, learning, or educational. Either of these three would be great, or even better if you combine them all together.

4) Use some movement. Do not just stand there and sound dull. Move your hands up and down and let the people see that you ARE there.

5) Make jokes or funny comments in between the speech. This will keep the audience from falling asleep. I mean, there is always one or two people that will find you boring but you just have to do what you do and give your speech.

6) Make sure you know what you are talking about because if you don't, you will be surprised how much different and worse you will sound.
