Acai Berry
Health buffs have been harping about the tremendous health properties of the Acai Berry (pronounced as a-sigh-ee), but not many people know what it really is. Acai Berry is a fruit that grows on acai palm trees in the Amazon Rainforest. If you see them hanging from palm trees, they look like purple grapes in bunches. The Acai Berry fruit is made up of 90% seed pit and 10% acai pulp. Before it can be used or consumed, it has to undergo a process where the pulp is separated from the pit. A puree of acai fruit pulp comes out and is then used in various products.

The Acai Berry Fruit may look very similar to a purple grape but it does not have as much juice and pulp. Unlike the grape, the Acai Berries have to be agitated in a machine to produce a thick pulp. The juice and the pulp are commonly used to make beverages including sodas, juices, and smoothies. In Brazil, it is traditionally served with tapioca and can be either sweet or salty. It is not common to see Acai Berry fruits being sold in the market in its very raw state. What you will normally see is the fruit pulp or juice that is either frozen or has been converted into powder form.
