Pimples are common. Acne prevention is all about skin pores and keeping them clear. Acne Vulgaris is the medical name for zits. Oh come on give me a break as if I didn't know that. Sorry for the introduction but not really sure where to start. O.K. how's this? I am not a doctor and disagree with what many doctors say, I have no formal training in skin care nor acne prevention, what I am writing on hubpages is my own life experience. Many people suffer from pimples and that is the only good news about them. The pimples I mean. Knowing that makes us feel better. Why? I always feel better when I know I am not alone. Everyone will experience cursing their pimples at one point or another in their lives. Pimples are most commonly called acne, or even more correctly, get ready, Acne Vulgaris! Pimples are a problem that happens to anyone no matter what their gender, color, race or age is. Pimples are generally tiny and pointy pus-filled skin elevations that affect both men and women, and in some cases even babies! Pimples are oftentimes red with a cyst-like appearance.

Causes of Pimples
There are various acne causes and pimple makers. Among these causes include over activity of the sweat glands which is typical and this is often the case with adolescents due to increased activity of the hormones triggering the sebaceous glands to excrete more sebum. Remember that word if your studying pimples, sebum. Sebum blocks pores and we need them unblocked. Hormonal imbalances during pregnancy or usage or stoppage of birth control pills can also cause pimples. Intake of medications like Lithium for bipolar depression can also be an acne cause pimples. Pimples may also be caused by skin irritations or infections. The infections result from the clogged pores which prohibit the body's natural oils from leaving the body. To me the biggest three culprits are present in the majority of acne cases. I will group them together here; inappropriate diet, poor cleansing routines and irregular sleep patterns.
Preventing Pimples
Fortunately for people suffering from this condition, there are medications for pimples or acne. However, in order to totally avoid the embarrassment of going to work with or school with a huge pimple on your nose, there are some things that you can do to prevent the chances of pimples developing. The most important of which is clear pores.
Pimple prevention is especially noteworthy for people who are genetically inclined to develop this embarrassing condition. If you have been plagued by pimples before, you are more likely to have it again in the future.
The most basic pimple prevention that you should take note of is proper hygiene. The second prevention method is prophylactic skin care. Opt for mild soaps and regularly clean or wash the area where pimples prone to develop. Do not overdo it or else you will exacerbate the condition.
If you are prone to acne or pimples, avoid using heavy makeup or better yet, avoid using make up at all. If you cannot avoid make ups, opt for hypoallergenic make ups. If you are drinking medications or pills, check with your physician about the effects of these medications on your skin.
Finally, eat a healthy and balanced diet; and get enough rest, sleep and exercise.

If you think about acne break outs you will probably be bale to figure out which areas of our bodies have the most hair follicles containing sebum glands. Quick test: Q1.Who thinks we have loads of sebum glands attached to the hair follicles of the skin under our feet? Q2. Who thinks we have loads of sebum glands hanging out with hair follicles on our forehead? O.K. get the picture. As it takes so long to type sebum glands attached to hair follicles each time I just call them funnels. I am not a doctor and no one should ever listen to me so I can call them whatever I want. In any case it is just a mind picture I have that works for me. If these funnels become blocked the sebum can't get out and backs up and presto now we have a zit. So point is to keep the funnels, pores, follicles or whatever else we want to call them clear. Keep the holes open.

This is quite simple really. Eat the right food and wash the right way and get enough regular sleep. Many doctors still keep fighting the point that diet has little or nothing to do with pimples. I say simply that this is madness. Diet has everything to do with acne Vulgaris, pimples, zits or whatever you favorite term is. You eat the wrong food and you will over produce sebum. You over produce sebum and you are in trouble. It's that simple. So get out there on the net and find diets that support a balanced sebum supply. As a hint I can tell you to look for help on sugars, refined carbohydrates and fats. I promise you if you do some self learning on the subject of diet and learn which foods are sugars you will do yourself a huge favor. I was asked by a reader just this week to cut to the chase and just give her a diet plan. Truth is I don't have a plan written down. It's all in my head and has become instinctive to me. But what I did do is tell a story of how a friend of mine improved his acne situation in a week living with me by the beach. The idea just revolved around the central concept that these days we just don't know what we are eating so take your food intake back to the very basics we do know. Washing to keep your pores open.
The trick to washing your acne covered skin is to be gentle. When I say gentle there are three factors to be kept in mind. One is the kind of face wash you use. I don't want to turn this into an advert for any one face wash but to be fair one make more than any other helped me. If you want to know which product helped me I will be happy to tell you. Just drop me an email through this hubpage. Suffice to say the face wash I used was very gentle. Oh and did you notice I said "used" that's right I no longer use any kind of acne wash. I am cured. So a gentle balanced face washes. Next is to know to use just the tips of your fingers to gently lather you face. Only use your own skin to wash your won skin after it has been thoroughly cleansed. Don't wash you hands at the same time as your face. Wash your hands first. Consider your face a war zone that must be kept in the stickiest quarantine. Never touch your face with bare unwashed hands. Never use the towel to scratch an itch. Indeed never scratch at all. So soft towel, dabbing motion. Oh and throw the towel in the wash after each use. Only use clean towels for every face wash. Be sure that the towel has been washed in a low detergent cycle with just a little disinfectant added. Always a clean towel. Always gentle. PS. Towels. There are so many kinds of towels these days. All I can say is don't use man made fabrics. Use cotton. Greece has some of the best cotton towels in the world. Another really good "made in" label would be Japan. Hard to believe perhaps but there is one company in Japan that supplies a great deal of the world's cotton. They don't make towels as far as I know but they do supply the base cotton so ask your towel maker where their cotton came from. If it is Japan chances are you have a good towel. Remember to wash your towels after every use. Never use a towel that has been any where an acne infected area twice.

I would like to agree with the point about synthetic fabrics.You should avoid garments made exclusively of Lycra and nylon if you are prone to body acne since some synthetic fabrics can strap the heat and moisture against your skin creating a fertile breeding ground for bacteria that form pimples and even acne.Always wear sunscreen if your regimen takes you outdoors since prolonged comedones and of course, sun damage can lead to acne.
