Natural acne remedies
Prescription drugs aren't right for everybody due to the sometimes adverse effects that they might have on other parts of your body, therefore a natural remedy might be a better solution. Every family has their own secret collection of home remedies but here are a couple pretty popular ones that are being shared amongst acne sufferers everywhere.
Boosting your intake of the two vitamins, niacin and Vitamin A, if taken in the proper dosage, will improve the condition of your acne. Zinc has been known to drastically improve the appearance of acne and, like Vitamin A, is available in most drug stores and supermarkets so you won't have any hassle in obtaining it. In any case, you should start to see results within a month or sooner.
Other popular natural remedies involve grinding down an orange peel into a mixture of water and directly applying it to the areas where acne is visible. The same can be done with lemon juice. Garlic is noted as being able to cure a wide variety of imbalances in the body, including skin problems. In terms of acne, garlic is very successful in being able to significantly clear up acne problems. So long as you don't mind the smell of garlic, you can rub the affected acne areas with garlic several times a day and ingest it daily in order to get the desired results.
For anyone who has ever tried or seen face masks, you've most likely noticed that cucumber is widely used in these mixtures. So it isn't so surprising to discover to learn that rubbing grated cucumber over your face, eyes, and neck will help to prevent acne.
Acne medicine
Before taking any type of acne medicine, it is good to consult a dermatologist to ensure that you pick the right solution. There are four types of acne medicine: topical antimicrobials, topical retinoids, oral antibiotics, and oral contraceptives.
Topical antimicrobials are prescribed to treat mild to severe acne cases and help to minimize the appearance of papules and pustules by eliminating the bacteria that causes them. Topical retinoids are a derivative of Vitamin A and are used for mild to inflammatory acne. Although they do work well in unclogging pores and preventing acne, they can cause irritation and sun sensitivity. Oral antibiotics are necessary for severe acne cases and also work to reduce the bacteria that causes acne. Oral contraceptives are sometimes used to prevent acne in many women and long-term use is possible.
Hopefully this information will help you to choose the acne remedy best suited for you!

Treating acne
If home remedies aren't strong enough for your acne, or aren't giving you satisfactory results, you can always check out one of the multitude of natural products available in your local pharmacy or through a prescription. Although there are so many products to choose from that making a buyer's decision does turn into a nightmare, keep in mind that most of them contain similar ingredients. The name and percentage of those ingredients may be different but a good lot of them yield similar results. Just target the products which state on the label that they are made with natural ingredients which are safe for your skin.
One of the basic active ingredients of a serious body acne product - natural or otherwise - is benzoyl peroxide, successfully used in treating back acne. There are some things that you may need to consider when using anything containing benzoyl peroxide. Make sure that you plan your wardrobe accordingly while the benzoyl peroxide is still active on your skin. ‘What does your personal fashion have to do with this chemical?' you may be asking yourself. Well, consider some other uses of benzoyl peroxide. It's used for bleaching hair, preparing flour, and whitening teeth. Flour is white. After you've bleached your hair that also becomes white. And white teeth... are white of course. Even in low concentrations of 2.5% or 5% (the standard amounts in any acne care product) the bleaching effects remain quite potent. So if you're going to use acne products with benzoyl peroxide, do yourself and your fancy shirts a favor by sticking to white shirts that you don't care much for. And make sure that you keep wearing white for several hours after applying the product because benzoyl peroxide remains active for many hours after it has already dried. After all, you wouldn't want to bleach your brand new red silk shirt, now would you?
How does benzoyl peroxide assist in clearing up acne? As already mentioned, it is very powerful and proven effective against acne. Its main function is to work as a peeling agent, kind of like an advanced exfoliant, and helps to remove dead skin cells, clearing pores and promoting the growth of new ones. It's great for eliminating the bacteria that causes acne to form in the first place.

Prevent body acne
You may not be able to do much to adjust the comfort level of your face once you experience an acne outbreak, but you can surely minimize the discomfort of body acne and prevent it with some helpful hints. First of all, avoid wearing tight clothing since cutting off the air circulation to your back or neck is bad for your skin. That means no lycra or spandex-mix shirts that trap your torso in a mold of its likeness. This is especially bad because when you sweat it will become trapped against your skin and turn into a breeding ground for bacteria. Wear loose clothing made from a breathable fabric like 100% cotton or high percentage cotton mixes to promote good circulation and ventilation.
Avoid skin irritating products like strong perfumes or colognes, and be sure to thoroughly rinse your clothes after they've gone through the wash cycle to make sure that no detergent or starchy residue is remaining. Also be careful of wearing backpacks or bags with tight shoulder straps that will plaster your bag against your back or chafe your skin. Not only is this bad for encouraging acne, but it is also incredibly annoying in general for your skin. By keeping your skin in a healthy environment, your chances of preventing and minimizing the ill effects of acne will naturally increase.

Reading about the side effects of benzoyl peroxide made me laugh as I remember bleaching my shirts, pillow cases, carpet etc in high school !
Benzoyl peroxide definitely isn't for those with dry or sensitive skin. Salicylic acid generally works just as well but does no dry the skin as much.
I no longer use anything for my skin that would have adverse side effects. I've chosen to go all-natural and use a regimine of liquid herbal supplements...I've been free of cystic acne ever since. A friend turned me onto Alternative medicine. Maybe it will help someone else too. http://www.skintreatmentwebsite.com
