What are stem cells..

You may find yourself asking the question what is so important about stem cell research?  How has this science found its way to be so entrenched in politics?  First you must know that anytime there is a new horizon, a new technology, there will be those that say it doesn't have a place.  Stem cells quite frankly and simply have the ability not to treat cells that have been damaged or destroyed by disease they actually regenerate them.  Where as all current science is geared towards the treatment for the damage already done these cells in a sense can turn back the clock.  Stem cells are the bodies master cells.  In the embryonic stage they are the very building blocks of all bodily function as well as organ and tissue growth.  When these cells are gathered by biological scientist they can then in a sense manipulate how and what that cell will grow into.  Scientist can guide the cell to treat and regenerate many degenerative diseases such as heart disease, macular degeneration, lupus, leukemia, and various other "untreatable" diseases.  By being able to reverse time they can reconnect the body with health master cells.  Why is this so controversial?  Cells collected at the embryonic stage have invoked the conception argument.  When is an embryo a valid living being?  Is it at conception or sometime later.  I will leave that one up to you.  There are ways of gathering adult stem cells but they have yet to show the same effectiveness.  It is worth mentioning that most modern science is using embryos created in fertility clinics not harvesting them from healthy mothers. Again that is something you must answer for yourself.

What does Advance Cell Technology Do?

Advance Cell has several clinical trials in process. One is the HG cell program which is specifically targeted to treating a variety of cardiovascular disease. This groundbreaking program has already passed the stage one trials from the FDA(animal testing stage) and has been granted passage by the FDA for stage two. The company is currently engaged in launching this test and is seeking outside funding to assist in the process. However the most current and exciting trial is the RPE program or retinal pigment epitheleum. This is targeted to a massive market which suffers from age related macular degeneration. This is the number one cause of blindness in those over the age of 60 and affects 30 million people world wide. The current market cap for treatment is 28 billion dollars. As we talked earlier about stem cells we disguised their regenerative processes. Because this disease is "degenerative" in large it is impossible to stop. However with the advancement of stem cell therapy there could come a time when those effected will be able to grow new cells and turn back time. This therapy has passed pre clinical trials and the company is currently working on submitting an NDI . This is slated to happen before the end of 2009.

Why Advance Cell?

Many reasons actually.  The company currently has left the pink sheets and is now reporting on the OTCB.  What does this mean; It means they are now a fully reporting financial company.  Those that trade on the pink sheets do not have to provide much financial transparency.  Why is this important you ask.  Two reasons, one clearly by doing this the company has nothing to hide.  It is important to them that investors see where they stand.  Two it sets them up to be looked at as a possible buyout candidate by a larger company looking for new technology.  I personally believe that is where this one goes.  If you follow this company they are clearly an research and development operation.  I believe they are building a case to be bought out.  With the political climate shift with regard to stem cell research this sector could become one of the medical waves of the next 5 years.  Saying that Advance Cell has firmly placed themselves among the elite with regard to their research.  They have approximately 500 million outstanding shares.  Not a ton for a research company.   They are well of the highs of they year, .29, so currently at .11 it could be a very compelling entry point.  The upcoming NDA application could provide a catalyst to send this much higher.

What To Do?

Well this one really just depends on your belief in the future of stem cell applications.  The science and the results are clearly there but the question remains does it continue and does it become widely accepted.  Can we all get to a point where the importance of the science as it relates to the well being of man outweighs any prejudice we may have with regards to its origins.  Imagine for a moment that you had a child with leukemia or an parent that was blind and there was a science that could actually reverse the effects.  Is there a price on that?  It is very easy to sit back and play "arm chair quarterback" and sneer and what we may not totally understand.  To dismiss it as quack science or deem it unethical.  Opinions are very easy to have when you aren't faced with the possibility of maybe having a child with an untreatable disease or a parent that suffers through there elder years.  I think if we all did some soul searching that we would agree we would do anything to "fix" our loved ones.  That is what this type of science offers.  As always happy stock hunting and as a disclaimer I am long ACTC.OB

Good review. This is currently my 90% investment. I believe ACTC will be the leader in stem cell research and the management has proved over and over to be right on the spot. Great things are happening as we speak and on December 3rd they are going to be in the eyes of deep pocket investors at Los Angeles, California. Lets hope we get picked by a big institution. Thanks for the review.
