How to Add Applications to the iPhone
79
There are two primary ways to get applications on your iPhone. First, you can purchase them through iTunes. These are officially licensed applications by Apple and iTunes. Some are third party applications, but they are approved for use on the iPhone by Apple. If you do not have the money for these applications, or are looking for something that is not offered, you can turn to unlicensed third party applications for your iPhone.
In order to install applications, you can do it one of two ways. If you are purchasing them for iTunes, you can simply drag and drop them into your iPhone. This will automatically install them and make them ready for use. If you are going the third party route, you will need to unlock your iPhone first. If you choose to unlock your iPhone, this will void the warranty and potentially cause problems if you need to update the firmware down the line. Essentially, many iPhone updates detect third party applications and other open source coding that have been put onto the cell phone. Once detected, it can cause problems using the phone or even accessing essential functions of the device.
If you still wish to use third party applications, and have unlocked your iPhone, you must then find a third party application installer. While you can, in some cases, drag and drop applications into the correct folder, it will be easier to find a third party program that will install them for you. If you do it yourself, you risk the chance of further damage to the iPhone. The program will install the application in the right place so that you can use it. Otherwise, you risk ruining your iPhone and having to purchase a new one for full price.
The problem with third party applications that are not approved for use with the iPhone is that their installation voids any warranty you have on your cell phone. Third party applications can also cause problems with the firmware, software and other applications on your iPhone. Apple recommends you avoid third party applications and only install licensed applications on any iPhone device.
