People who eat for a reason that has nothing to do with hunger or nourishment are suffering with the same kind of obsession and must seek help from an addiction treatment center.

If alcoholics are called binge drinkers, and drug users are called junkies, and they're both addicted to a certain vice, then doesn't the same apply for the people who are addicted to food? Whatever their poison of choice may be, the bottom line is that they're all addicted to something. And people who eat for a reason that has nothing to do with hunger or nourishment are suffering with the same kind of obsession and must seek help from an addiction treatment center. Food addiction is just like those other taboo addictions that usually garner more attention from a community. Substance abuse instantly translates to the illegal drugs and alcoholism, and people who suffer from this are immediately sent to the nearest addiction treatment facility. But how about an addiction that isn't of the garden variety sort? Should people who overeat be left to live out of their refrigerators?

Of course not. Food addiction is as dangerous to your health as other kinds of addiction out there. An addiction, whatever it may be, is an excess of something, and you should always be mindful about it. Food addicts are obsessed with eating as much food as possible, without worrying about the health risk. People who suffer from this experiences the same effects present with any addictions. Psychologically, mentally, physically, and emotionally, a person displays changes when it comes to food addiction, and they often don't realize it until a loved one attempts to get that person to see the light.

It isn't unusual for these food dependents to get easily depressed and relapse into binge eating, just like any person who is going through substance withdrawal. People shouldn't fail to neglect food addiction just because eating is considered a part of your daily routine. If you know someone who's showing signs of an addiction, don't hesitate to intervene and call the attention of that person. He or she may not realize it, but you can help.
