Find Some Wood

My art studio entrance is laced with different pieces of wood. I prefer to pick up driftwood for my pyrography projects but also like to use weathered wood found in old scrap piles. That is actually where I got my first wood collection. It started with my wanting to do something special for a gift and not having funds to purchase a nice something.

I had the idea that I could make a woodburning from a drawing I had finished. I headed to an old woodpile to find a free piece of wood. That lack of money kept me from going to the lumber yard . That was an inspirational hunt. From that day until today I am always on the lookout for wood to BURN. I git most of my wood from the lake shore, old furniture, the woods, by the riverside, on construction sights and so on. I bring it home and file it along the sides of the hallway into my studio. There it might stay for a day or a few years, until I am motivated to put the fire to it. I lIke to keep plenty of driftwood on hand for those moments of inspiration. My friends and family know that it is not uncommon to find me in the wee hours of the morning, putting the hot pen to the wood.
