Aeron Chairs

One of the most innovative and comfortable pieces of office furniture ever designed just may be the aeron chair.  You may have even see this luxurious item commonly misspelled as the aerian chair, aaron chair or aereon chair.  In 1994, Don Chadwick and Bill Stumpf designed the aeron chair for Herman Miller. What makes the aeron chair special you ask? Well it has been specially designed for maximum ergonomic comfort because it can be adjusted for a wide range of fit and is available in three sizes. The seat incorporates something called "Pellicle" which is a flexible mesh material. The material is partially transparent and stretched and is found on the back and seat of aeron chairs. Customization of the chair can be done via its modular extensions, including lumbar and scaral support as well as adjustable armrests.

The aeron chairs have also been ingrained into American business history. They were added to the New York Museum of Modern Art as a symbol of the dot-com bubble of the late 90's. Many dot-com offices were forced to sell their luxurious aeron chairs at auctions to help with liquidation and paying off debts. It's still joked to this day that you can identify a failing or failed dot-com business by looking for how many aeron chairs the offices have.

The Aeron Chair was named by "Your Company" magazine as one of "Design's Greatest Hits", as well as a Gold Winner for Office Furniture category of "Designs of the Decade" award given by Businessweek.

Read on for more information about the aeron chair, it's importance in dot-com history and where to find one for your home or business!

What makes Aeron Chair so Comfortable?

Aeron chairs are said to be ergonomically the best for those looking to prevent back pain or other posture issues.  The aeron chairs incorporate a technology known as the "Kinemat tilt mechanism" which has a tension adjustment for weight shift as well as depth adjusting lumbar pads.  These provide for proper mechanics for back support through the best posture available.  The arms of the aeron chairs also include the ability for height/pivot adjustment so they will be just right for the user, whether they need them at certain heights for the mouse or keyboard of a computer desk.  The other feature of the chair is the aforementioned Pellicle suspension system which will keep skin temperatures down.  In traditional foam padded chairs, body skin temps tend to rise, but not with the mesh material used on the seat and back of the aeron chairs

Aeron Chairs & Dot-Com Bubble Burst!

As you can see to the right of this text, Aeron Chairs are available at eBay of all places, where you can get one at a reasonable price for its quality.  The Aeron chair was notably a status symbol during the big dot-com boom. While dot-com companies were growing at rapid rates, it lead to extravagant spending on office equipment and comfortable furniture. The Aeron chair followed as something that offices had to have. Since it was a product of Herman Miller, the Aeron chair made him quite rich during the year 2000 dot-com peak.

Unfortunately, once dot-com companies burst, they had to start downsizing and liquidating their office equipment and furniture. The Aeron chair was included in that downsizing, leading to vast quantities of the aeron chairs being auctioned off or sold elsewhere. Aerons continue to be seen in large numbers on auction circuits. As of today, there's no real good estimate of just how many aeron chairs were "consumed" by fat dot-com companies looking to spend lavishly.
