How to choose some of the best affiliate programs

Affiliate programs, so numerous, where do you start? Firstly, get all your questions asked and answered before you join an affiliate program. Do a little research about the choices of program that you intend to join. Be sure to get the answers to all your questions before choosing any program, since this could make a difference between success and failure.

Is there a cost to apply? The majority of affiliate programs are totally free to join. So why settle for those that charge you to enroll?

When is commission checks issued? All programs are unique. Most commission checks are issued monthly, quarterly, etc. Take your pick, knowing why you choose one over the other. Some affiliate programs set minimum earnings, which an affiliate must meet or exceed in order for their checks to be issued.

What is the ratio of hit per sale? this is the number of hits from banners and/or text ads to create the sale. This factor is extremely important because this will tell you how much traffic you must generate before you can earn a commission from the sale.

Referrals from the affiliate’s website, how are these tracked and how long are they kept on the system? You need to be confident that the program will track the traffic coming from your website. This is the only way that you will get credit for a sale. The period of time that those people stay in the system is also important. This is due to the fact that many visitors will not purchase on the spot but could return later to make the purchase. Know if you will still get credit for the sale if it is done some months from a certain day.

What are the kinds of affiliate stats available? Your choice of affiliate program should offer detailed statistics. These stats must be available to you at all times. You should regularly check your stats, it is very important knowing how many hits, impressions and sales are currently recorded from your website. Impressions are the number of times the banner or text link was viewed by a visitor of your site. A hit is the one clicking on the banner or text links.

Your affiliate program choice should also pay for the impressions and hits along with your sales commission. It is important that impressions and hits are also paid, as this will add to the earnings you get from the sales commission. This is especially important if the program you are in, offers low sales to hit ratio.

Know who the online vendor is, who are you in business with, is it really a solid company. Know the products find out if these are good quality and if there is a market for them. Find out as much as possible about the vendor offering the affiliate program, this will make it easier to decide if that program is really for you and your site.

Know if the affiliate program is a one or two tier program? The single tier program only pays for the sales you yourself make. The two tier pays you for your personal sales, plus it also pays you a commission on the sales generated by any affiliate you sponsor in your program. Also, a few two-tier programs even pay a fee for new affiliates that you personally introduce. Just like a sponsoring fee.

You should find out what the commission structure is, 5% - 20% is the commission paid by most programs. .01% - .05% is the amount paid for each hit. Some programs pay a very small fee for impressions, and this tells you how very important the hit to sales ratio is.

These are a few of the questions that should be asked and answered fully before signing up for any affiliate program. You should be familiar with the many important aspects that your chosen program should have before incorporating them into your website. Don’t be afraid to ask these tough questions. These can help you select the right program for your site from among the many available.
