Lost With Dementia
39Lost With Dementia
It will soon be my Grandmother's birthday. She is going to be 96 this year!
She's in a nursing home, and when family members visit her, she always tells
them that she is going home, and sometimes forgets who they are. It's absolutely
heart breaking. She's the sweetest grandma anybody could ever ask for, I've
truly been blessed with the perfect grandparents. My grandparents were the kind
of people that would have given you the shirt off their backs. I lost my beloved
Grandpa when I was thirteen years old. My Grandma has had dementia for over a
decade now.
It really touched me hearing about an older man with dementia that went
missing over night. We had a couple cold days and nights here lately. Cold for
us Floridians anyhow. No matter which way you turn, if you are cold, you are
cold! He was out in the freezing cold the whole night, and they found him in the
morning with cuts and scrapes on his hands. Luckily he does not remember how
they got there. They'd last seen him by an American Legion as their surveillance
cameras showed him wandering around their building so they later found.
My hubby recalls a neighbor from across the street from the house he grew
up in wandering off as well. They often had to help him get back home. When we
sold insurance, an elderly man let us into his home after we told him who we
were. Has us sit down on the couch, and went into the back bedroom telling his
wife that a man and woman were there to do the pool! Well, she came into the
living room absolutely startled! We explained again who we were, then she was at
ease. As we were talking with her at their dining room table, we later saw a man
go in their back yard to clean their pool! He had beginning stages of dementia
as well.
Now for the caregivers, it is a constant job trying to keep their eyes on
them at all times. I'd definitely suggest to anybody who has to keep their eyes
on somebody to have either hidden cameras, like the fully functional
Built-In DVR Air Purifier Hidden Camera, in their house, maybe in
their room, or at least have a camera such as the BC-30WC-DN
Color Day/Night Bullet Camera, at every door! If you have them
outside of your house, you can see who's going in or out and which direction at
least. Not only are cameras around your house a great help for those with needy
people at home, but they are also a great peace of mind for your home security.
Check them all out today, you don't want to procrastinate on something so
beneficial.
Yours In Safety,
Regina Jacques
