ALMOST CUT MY HAIR (David Crosby)
"Almost cut my hair
It happened just the other day
It's gettin kinda long
I could have said it was in my way...."
.
but I did actually.
ahem. I cut my hair. it actually was in my way. :p
it's really really short ... and it's not impossible that it's a prep mode for going back to a more colorful recent past. I might, in fact, actually be in possession of a couple of different colorz - Beyond Jamz "wild red" and Manic Panic's "pillarbox red".
ahem, friendz
Manic Panic
my favorite hair dye place is Manic Panic which has an extraordinary selection of bizarre colorz and outstandingly irresistable make-up of all forms including unusual stuff like glitter eyelashes, unusual wigz, face rhinestones and more.
Tish and Snooky's story:
"In 1977 native New Yorkers Tish & Snooky Bellomo opened America's first Punk Rock boutique on St. Mark's Place. Singers in the original Blondie line up, the sisters have been bringing the punk look and lifestyle to the masses for over 25 years. Their brand Manic Panic® has survived NYC's skyrocketing commercial rent increases, dramatic economic turns, and constant attempts at knock-offs by the Goliaths of the beauty industry. The resilient sisters refuse to give up their market share to corporate copycats. Manic Panic® (still privately owned and managed by the two sisters,) has grown into a multi-million dollar international hair color and cosmetics company. Although their little store in the East Village is gone, the original spirit in which it was founded lives on. "We don't just sell it, we LIVE it!" say the sisters..."

must be something in the air, eh? :D
thank you, jimmy.... the nice thing about hair, it will grow out anywayz.
on some people yes lol but not when bald spots start (ahem) not that i would be going bald or anything(ahem).....jimmy
Idunn it's cute! I like it on you and with red it's sassy. Good move!
lol jimmy, of course not. hehe
nightflower, thank you... it's almost as sassy as red shoes, eh? :D I like the short hair - I had it short and did colorz for almost 3 years. the redz (various and occasionally flourescent) remain my favorites, but I've had blue and green and orange too. : )
I missed my hair like it was it's own beloved entity.
Iðunn, if that first photo is of you, please keep the short hair, it and you are gorgeous. I on the other hand only go to barber shops for estimates! Maybe a little pro rating! Nice hub as usual.
aw, now you're after making me blush. :o
lol@estimates...
I actually don't go to a shop. me or my kidz cut my hair for me and it's never even. :p
In '92 I bleached my (black) hair and then dyed it with bright-red Manic Panic...about half ended down the shower drain over the next few days, and about a third on my pillow. ;-) By day 3 it was a light pink color.
jimmy kudos on the razor...bald is hot now, and it sure beats the combover!
I've had trouble getting motivated to dye my hair again. I've been putting it off for weeks.
But now after reading this I can't wait.
It's not ManicPanic but it is Ruby Tuesday Red.
livelonger, ya, manic panic washes out some every time and ahem, it might get on furniture sometimes :p
worth it though. I usually get about 3 weeks of good color after a batch. what might have happened for yours is dying it the same day you bleach it. it really helps a lot if you bleach it to platinum one day and then wait until the next day, wash it again a couple of times, then dye it. if bleach is left in the hair it can rag out the color pretty fast - guess it eatz it sort of.
congratz on even making it that far though, I can't imagine having to go from black to pure bleached... it's hard enough to do from auburn.
some of the other hair colorz bleed out less and don't get on the furniture. try beyond zone next time.
poetic muse.. yay!!! you have to show us when you do it!
I've had a form of ruby tuesday, think it was beyond zone also.... I loved it... it looks just like that girl in that movie I can't remember the name of with those czech thrill killerz that came out a while ago.
best hair-dying wishes to you : )
are you thinking of run, lola, run? (it was german)
the problem with my bad dye job was that we mixed manic panic with this other "traditional" glossy red dye. neither really took.
as for the bleaching, we had to do it twice for the black to bleach out. ;-)
actually I loved 'run lola run' - fantastic film... however, no. her hair was more orange which I also duplicated with manic panic's 'electric lava'.
I finally thought of the name of that movie - "15 Minutes". The girl in that film had the ruby red. : )

you might want to try your hair again. for me it helps when I go with redz and oranges because when I bleach my hair it fades to that anyway and I don't always have to leave it in enough to platinum itself for a good color. this preventz the weakening that over-bleaching can cause.
in fact, you know I think that color in my profile pic there is the electric lava. it remained a fav for me for quite some time and had the additional plus of being, ahem.... flourescent. it glowed up under blacklightz. :D
since I am partial to coloring my hair with redz, would that make me a dye-hard socialist?
Back in the day there were colored mousses...well, they were supposedly for adding highlights...but my then-platinum-blonde hair made any slight hue very noticeable. I could (and did) my hair different colors daily depending on mood.
Lol, and I did the chop thing last weekend. Went in and had 4 inches hacked off. It must be almost spring.
I'm all for hair as a form of expression! :)
Chica, i luv the fab pix of you!!!!!
heya, C. I'm still stuck in the faded black hair. I can't decide which direction to go next and I've put it off. :p but yeah, those are like, last month. I'm thinking some kind of blend this time or another red.
good to see you drop in~
I, you carry off the black hair so beautifully. A few years ago, having returned from a trip in which Interpol stopped me in the airport and x rayed my stomach (i kid you not), i wanted to be someone else when i got home. my local walgreens had black dye, not rinse, and i was impatient. i think we have similar complexions - i'm a natural redhead, or at least i was in my youth. in order to step out of the house, i had to apply enough makeup to look mediterranean, as i didn't have the wardrobe to carry off goth. before long, i had black hair and a white stripe at the roots and that's when the lightening process started. At my wedding, i was pink headed - much as Livelong describes - to match my dress. Today red touchups keep my real color a continued mystery. Who needs to know?
I am indeed a sort of auburn, light brown, like you. I admit I wasn't too fond of the black when it was black but it didn't stay that dark long. I like the idea of you in pink. heck I like the idea of everyone in pink. pretty neat.
bummer at the airport, I saw a movie about that once, 'maria, full of grace' and I can imagine how horrible. :( yeah, sometimes life events or sometimes general boredom inspire a change. for me this last time it was boredom. I have no idea why I picked black. at least it's better than blonde.
I saw María Full of Grace, after that happened to me. Fortunately for me, I was innocent. All I was carrying were sugar cookies :) But I guess I was profiled. Or perhaps it was my relentless crying in the airport (my favorite auntie had passed away). Until I passed a posse of police dogs who didn't even twitch, I was followed by militia like cops through the airport. Was traveling with my mum. She didn't talk to me for the rest of the trip and really got upset when she saw me a week later in black hair and braids. Maybe she thought I was headed to Sweaky Fromdom. Not one of my life's peak experiences. Should have gone pink straight away.
my condolences, belated, about your aunt. worst reason to travel. :( I am going to guess having all that mess with xray didn't add to the experience.
sqeaky.. now there's a blast from the past. wow, its been a long time, I seem to remember hearing she was out, but I'm not sure. do you know?
and yes, pink would have been good. if there is any colour that lifts my moods, it's pink hair. I shall love pink hair with you, friendo. :)
You're the best!
You're the best!
I've finally figured out what to do with my hair this time. :) It's going to be a long and complicated process but I look forward to something new.
totally blonde now. :)
Beautiful idunn!!
Somehow I missed your comment/inquiry from a few months back!! Just me having a "blonde" moment!! (Actually I found seven misplaced comments on a HubPage I had never seen??) My apologies!! Not very Hubber-friendly of me!!
Sooooooooooooo good to hear from you!! Even better to see you!! You are beautiful!! I am delighted you are no longer hiding your glorious, creative, inspiring self!!
I have been off and on the Hub Circuit; unfortunately mostly off until a few days ago!! Just life getting in the way of my "plans!!"
This Hub of yours is a hoot!! Anything having to do with hair calls to my heart!! Being an artist, the colors tickle my senses!!
Having done my own hair the last few years, I decided to treat myself to a professional cut and color a couple of weeks ago!! Since it's 4+ feet long, very light blonde and in desperate need of low-lights, I took great care in working out a gameplan with the stylist before we began!!
She cut off about 18 inches!! It's still down to my thighs!! But I really didn't expect for her to hand me my own ponytail, disconnected!
I should have bolted at that time!! But she came highly recommended by a friend of mine who is an absolute perfectionist!!
I took a deep breath and told myself to "trust the process!!"
About 30 minutes into the weave I began to smell something harsh!! For some reason the stylist had changed our gameplan!! Needless to say, I am now lighter in color than Marilyn Monroe!! Since my skin is so light, I look albino!!
You sound much more daring than I! When I want to get wild I resort to sapphire-color extensions or fire-red wigs!! They haven't been out in awhile; no time like the present!!
So good to hear from you, see you, read you and appreciate your prescence beautifl idunn!!
Blessings always, Earth Angel!!
wow, you have great hair to work with! I think you should stick with doing it yourself but I can see why you might have enlisted help :p
I've thought of you often, hoping you were doing well, and dropped a comment for you when I returned and then figured you had just wandered off much as I often do. I'm so glad you've turned up and sound so happy and busy - it's a delight to see you.
