American Singles

There are many American singles who are perfectly happy with their life just the way it is and do not want a significant other.

Then there are the unhappy American singles who are in search of a partner and a soul mate to spend the rest of their life with. Many of them feel that their life will not be complete until they find a mate.

Forty-Two percent of Americans were single as of the US Census in 2006. (see American Singles - The Statistics below)

Many American singles go to clubs and bars in search of their perfect match. Many of them have told me that they have been going to these places for years and have not found anyone. A small percentage of them have found a partner in this type of setting.

There are other options. Many churches have singles dances and get togethers. There are a lot of places that have these types of dances. I just did a search for "singles dance" and there were many results. You can do the same thing and add your state to find one near you. Ok, so you can't dance, no problem, take a dance class. You never know who you might meet there. Colleges seem to be having a lot of community classes for all kinds of dancing, even the very popular line dancing. Don't count out the other community classes either. They are usually inexpensive, but give you a new chance to meet people.

The internet has brought many options for American singles to meet. Always use caution when using this type of venue to look for a partner. Never meet anyone in person unless you do it in a very public place and take someone with you. You never know if a person is who they say they are. Do not give out your address or telephone number online, as this makes it easy for someone to find you. I have seen many lasting relationships that began online, but they used caution.

Now that I have made sure that you are aware of the caution needed, I will tell you about the places for American singles online that are free.

There are many social networks, which may or may not be the way that you want to go. Just do a search for "social network" and you will find many. There are so many that it would be exhaustive to put the complete list here.

Wikipedia has a list of some of the major social networks.

Another way is online dating sites. There are many of them, but you have to pick and choose.

If you join a "free" online dating site and they want to charge you to communicate with others, cancel your membership and look for another site unless you are willing to pay.

Datehookup.com - This site says that you can e-mail and chat with others 100% free

Okcupid.com - I checked their FAQ and they state that their service is free, even messaging others.

Mate1.com - This site says that you can use chat rooms, message boards, and instant messaging free.

Singlesnet.com - Free to contact members and to send each other e-mails.

Plentyoffish.com - The site states "we don't put a pay wall between you and everyone you try and contact" and "We are 100% Free"

There are many more American Singles online dating sites that are absolutely free to use, so pick and choose the best ones for you.

I do not recommend the American singles sites below unless you are willing to pay to communicate with others.

http://www.eharmony.com - They charge you to be a member. I could not find a price. You can not search for someone you are interested in, a computer does it for you by using answers to a questionnaire.

http://www.chemistry.com - From the site "Pricing. You may become a Member of the Service at no cost. As a Member, you will have the ability to participate in some, but not all, of the features and services available within the Service."

As you can see, there are many free and paid services and you will have to choose the one that is right for you.

In case you didn't know, Unmarried and Single Americans Week is the week of September 21-27, 2008 and is the third full week of September every year!
