One of the more popular tattoo designs to have these days is angel wings tattoos. If you have never seen one of these tattoos before, they can consist of a full back realistic size set of wings, to a small set as a suggestion of angel’s wings to anything in between.

Mostly they are placed on the back somewhere, but I have seen some of the smaller wings on arms, legs, chests, stomachs and even feet or hands.

There is a variety different ink colors used – from black and white to full color tattoos. The texture on the wings is something to consider, like different feather shapes and sizes and graining.

Another aspect to consider is the shape of the wings, almost anything goes here. There are abstract wings, wings pointing down, wings spread out as if in flight, open wings and closed wings.

What I am referring to here is if they seem angelical, humorous, modern, abstract, gothic, tribal, hopeful, melancholy, or maybe even a feeling of darkness – you get the idea. Some wings even have tears falling from them in memorandum for someone close who has passed away.

If you want to take the whole “darkness” thing farther, you can make the wings broken, skeletal, battle worn, tattered, or those of a fallen angel.

Some angel wings tattoos incorporate a symbol in between the wings as if the wings are sprouting from it. The symbol can be anything that you want it to be; maybe it has some personal meaning to you, or maybe it is just a symbol you have admired on someone else’s tattoo. Some examples are: military symbols, a heart, a family crest, a star, the name of a loved one, your favorite sports team, a zodiac symbol, a cross, or whatever else you can think of.

Okay, let’s sum this up so you can design one of your own angel wings tattoos. Choose the size, placement, color, texture, shape, mood, and whether or not to have a symbol between them. Obviously this will take a little bit of thought, but it will be worth it – you will have the tattoo for a very long time.
