IF CYPRUS HAS A VOICE, IT'S CALLED ANNA VISSI

ANNA VISSI, Άννα Βίσση, was born december 20, 1957, in Cyprus.

She is a singer, songwriter and actress, who since 1976, lives in Athens,Greece.

With her incredible voice and beauty, she conquered the hearts of every greek, since her beginings in 1977.

From 1995 to 2006, she received 28 platinum discs.

Her best albums are, 'Kravgi' (scream), 'Antidoto' (antidote) and 'Travma' (trauma).

In 1983 ,she married greek rock composer Nikos Karvelas,with whom she worked in almost all her productions ,until 2006. He wrote many of the lyrics and music for Anna's new style of pop-rock singing.

In 1986, she won the 2nd place in Cyprus national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, with her song ' I want to be a star'. this song was never released.

In 1988, she participated in the Greek national final contest for Eurovision, obtaining the 3rd place with her song, 'I'm crying '.

During 2006 and 2007, she toured around the world,performing in countries such as Spain, Russia, Netherlands, Belgium, Bosnia , Israel, Sweden, USA, and many others.

Sony BMG released recently a compilation of her best songs called 'The Essential Anna Vissi', which contains 17 tracks.

In 2008 she began recording her first album in English, which is a rock album, produced by Peter Asher,Brian Rawlings and Ric Wake.

Also during 2008 she visited London , and performed for a charity gala at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

For 2010, she signed with Sony Music Greece for her second English album.

TRIVIA

She lives for the past couple of years with male model Kostas Fragolias, eighteen years her junior.

Her daughter Sophia Karvelas is an actress and lives in New York City.

She has a white maltese dog that travels everywhere with her called "Vanilla"

She only eats organic products, exercises daily, loves going to the movies and her only weakness is popcorn.

Good friends with 'Sex and the city (1998) costume designer Patricia Fields ,who happens to be of Greek descent.

Her favorite song is "Logia Kai Siopes" from her 2005 album "Nylon".
