"Why wrinkles?"

It is a question many of us, particularly women, ask ourselves every day as we stare into the mirror.The answer is not too complicated. Wrinkles reflect the aging process of our skin. As the delicate skin structures gradually break down, our skin becomes less smooth, showing creases and tiny gaps which we call wrinkles.

The aging process can be controlled to some extent. Proper nutrition, exercise, getting enough sleep, avoiding cigarette smoke and most importantly, avoiding the harmful radiation of the sun, all help delay the effects of time on our skin.We all know as much, yet for most of us, and I speak from personal experience here, it's not until we see those first fine lines that we actually start taking better care of our skin...

Once those lines appear, it's a race against time to slow down the aging process, and women spend a LOT of money on anything that promises to aid in their battle for retaining a youthful look. These creams can be extremely expensive, none more so than eye creams. It's amazing to see just how expensive some those tiny little tubes and bottles can be! It's a good thing that there are affordable alternatives out there, and they claim to be just as effective, so why not give them a try first?

So, here's my review of the most popular anti-wrinkle eye creams available on Amazon.com. These won't cost you an arm and a leg - and being so popular, I suspect they are actually effective and offer good value for the price.

Just keep in mind, these creams may help smooth out some of the fine lines, but there is a point where no cream can help. Deeper creases may not respond to any cream and require a more drastic treatment in the form of eyelid surgery.

Avon Anew Eye Lift

This little white jar is the best selling eye cream on Amazon. According to Avon, it's the best selling eye cream in America. They do have some high claims with their "Brow Bone/Upper Eye Gelwith Dimensional Lift TechnologyTM". According to Avon, it actually lifts the skin around your eyes and brow area creating the same effect as eyelid surgery.

Does it work? According to their sales stats, buyers are happy with the results. At under $20, it certainly is much cheaper and less painful than surgery. 

Avon Hydrofirming Eye Cream

Avon scores again at #2 on Amazon's best selling eye creams. This time it's their Hydrofirming Eye Cream, which seems to be just as popular.

Like every eye treatment in a jar, it too makes its promises, but they sound slightly less pretentious. This one won't give a complete eyelift effect, but will only treat the fine lines around the eye. Customer reviews are all good, pointing out the moisturizing effect and the overall nice feeling it provides. 

Revision Skincare Teamine Eye Complex

This cream focuses less on wrinkles and more on those dark circles and overall puffy and tired look your eyes can get, but it does promise to tighten up the eye area skin as well and reduce sagging by, and this is an exact figure, 23 percent.

There are many ingredients in this cream, including jojoba ester, grape seed oil components, various vitamins and even caffeine. Recommended use is on the delicate skin under the eye, but it can be used on the upper eyelid as well. 

Relastin Eye Silk

At number four we finally have a cream with actual anti-aging qualities. This one promises to generate an increase in elastin in the skin around your eyes. Elastin, as its name suggests, is a protein that makes your skin more elastic and less prone to creasing. Relastin cream doesn't contain elastin, but rather encourages your skin to produce more of this element.

The manufacturer claims that Relastin is "Clinically proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and visibly reduce dark circles and puffiness around the eyes." Check out their page on Amazon where they provide some pretty impressive before and after pictures. It is expensive, but seems to be quite effective.

Hope in a Tube Eye and Lip Firming Cream

Another popular cream that offers help for the fine lines, both around your eyes and around the lips too. Reviewers seem to love this product, noting that it does make a visible difference within the first application, tightening up the skin and reducing fine wrinkles.

Using a combination of intensive moisturizers and vitamins, this cream also reduces puffiness in the eye area and treats dark areas under the eye as well.  

So which should you get? Looks like there is a selection of effective eye creams around. Price is obviously a factor, and then there is the matter of personal preference of qualities such as the cream's consistency, its scent and ease of application. Compared to the price of cosmetic eyelid surgery, it may be well worth your time to give these creams a try, as long as you don't expect them to be as effective.
