American Idol has been on the air since June 11, 2002 and from the first session the point the help talented American's reach their dreams of being an artist, these are people who are just like you and me who are now able to become famous, and make a real cd with a label and bring that music to everyone around the world.. people like kelly clarkson, carrie underwood, david archileta, david cook... are now house hold names and bring hope to the millions who try out every year to get a spot on the coveted show.
Following each performance episode, a results show airs that reveals the breakdown of the voting public's decision. The most popular contestants are not typically revealed, though they have been on occasion. The three contestants (two in later rounds) who received the lowest number of votes are typically called to the center of the stage. From the bottom three, the bottom two are revealed, until finally the contestant who received the lowest amount of votes is eliminated from the competition. During Season 8, the judges are given the ability to perform a "save" if they feel like the voting audience made a mistake. If they reach a unanimous decision, they can save the contestant for another week, but the following week will eliminate 2 people, and the person saved can not be saved again. Once the contestants get to the top 5, the save can no longer be used. When a contestant is voted off of the show, a montage of the contestant's experience is played and they give their final performance.
Although yes it has helped many people and there are billions of fans i honestly have hated this show since day one, i dont think its entertaining to watch the judges tell people that hey today your voice just didnt cut it, no one can sing through every style of songs every night... but thats what is expected. Every one of my friends and even my In-laws love this show and every time we talk they ask me if i watched it and who i think will win and i tell them that i have no interest in the show because i think its a waste of time and that it has been over promoted.
I am glad to have the music stylings of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood in my CD collection because i think they have amazing voices and are very talented but i don't associated them with the show because now they are off the show and now they are finding their own voices and they keep improving.
Please don't comment and tell me "omg how can you hate american idol!!" because everyone has an opinion... i understand that you love it and there are shows that i love that you probably dont.. please respect everyone's hub's... thank you!!

you are completly correct, two of my friends auditioned down in san diego and one of them is very very talented and i guess they have to go and interview with the producers and then sing to someone else and at that point they just if your worth being on the show or not... neither of my friends were able to even go to the three judges because as they were told, hey you have a great voice and keep singing but we can't let everyone who's talented go in there...

I don't find the show all that real. They go through that period in at the start of the season where they have plain awful people on stage. If it was real that would not happen. There are thousands of very talented people in every city. Unless we are to believe that these three judges actually listen to thousands of people in every city then you would not expect people that bad to ever be on stage. It is all a show.
