Refrigerator

Part 1

Appliance repair

A refrigerator maintains a temperature that’s a few degrees above the freezing point of water and keeps foods from spoiling. The invention of the refrigerator provided the contemporary family the ability to store, freeze, prepare and preserve perishable foods for longer periods of time. Refrigeration changed the way we lived our lives. Before refrigerators, meat was salted for preservation, ice was considered lavish and last nights’ leftovers became today’s trash. With more confidence than ever, we can store dairy products and stock the refrigerator with fresh food and know it will keep cool and fresh for days to come.

Domestic refrigerators were eventually equipped with a separate compartment; a freezer. Functioning similar to the refrigerator, the freezer maintains a temperature below the freezing point of water keeping its contents frozen now giving us the ability to freeze things.

Since replacing the “ice box”, advances in refrigeration technology have certainly come a long way. Innovations like automatic defrost and automatic ice makers first appeared in the 50’s & 60’s and more energy efficient refrigerators were manufactured in the 70’s and 80’s to address environmental concerns.

Today’s’ refrigerators are built with innovative features and functions designed to make today’s kitchens more functional. With the huge selection of refrigerators on the market today, modern refrigeration has surpassed anything our forefathers could have imagined.

Refrigerators today can be free-standing, side by side fridge-freezers with digital displays. They have refreshments centers, make ice better than ever and dispense fresh filtered water. Modern refrigerators come equipped with LED Lighting and adjustable shelves & feet. Today refrigerators are available with freezers at the top or bottom. They come in multi-colored finishes; not just white. The latest craze in refrigerators is stainless steel. It’s durable, sleek, looks great and is a cinch to clean & maintain. 21st century refrigerators are rated “A” for energy efficiency and noise output levels.

Can you imagine living in the days prior to refrigerators? No - me neither.

Today, the refrigerator is America's most used appliance, found in more than 99.5% of American homes.
