A green auto expert offers advice on how to improve the performance of your car or truck while helping the environment.

With concerned citizens and governments all over the planet pooling their collective intellect and resources in trying to solve some of the world's energy problems, it is common for an individual to feel helpless.

But according to green auto expert Ana Easter, there are little things that each one of us can do that will help the environment. Easter says that since global warming is such a universal concern and it is almost unanimously agreed among scientists that the burning of fossil fuel is a major contributor to the problem, every person who drives a car or truck can be part of the solution.

Here are some of Easter's tips for reducing auto emissions:

1. Whenever possible, use public transportation. If this is not possible, then try to carpool or even ride a bicycle for very short trips.
2. When driving, try to drive smoothly without quick fluctuations in speed. Driving less than 45 to 50 MPH will also help lower your vehicle's total emissions, while helping to improve your mileage.
3. Be very choosy about the fuel that you pump into your car. Once you become educated on which gasoline burns the cleanest and emits the least amount of pollutants, you can reduce dirty emissions by up to 15%- 20%.
4. Be just as diligent in your choice of automobiles. Try to buy a fuel efficient car. This can be a hybrid car that will improve your MPG substantially, or a car that runs on alternative fuel, such as biodiesel.
5. Use a fuel additive that will increase your MPG. If you increase your mileage, you will be reducing your emissions. Fuel additives come in all forms and constitutions, such as liquids, mechanical devices that attach to your car, metallic patches and pellets that drop into your gas tank.
