Recipe for the Arteries

 

ARTERIES are vessels that carry blood from the heart to the various tissues. Today,

it is well known that arteries may become clogged or may lose their necessary

elasticity due to poor diet and unhealthy lifestyle. Arteriosclerosis (hardening of

the arteries) is a widespread serious disease in some parts of the world. Although

arteries undergo a normal hardening process due to age but adequate lifestyle may

significantly delay this process. It is necessary to keep away from tobacco,

prevent high blood pressure and control the level of cholesterol in order to

prevent arteriosclerosis which is among the main causes of myocardial infarction

(heart attack) and cerebral vascular stroke.

Yams are tubers of tropical origin. They are high in starch, which provide easily

absorbed energy. The most interesting properties of yams are their ability to

reduce the level of triglycerides (a type of fat in the blood) and to prevent

arteriosclerosis.

Therapeutic properties of yam with tomato prevent arteriosclerosis

Yams contain a steroid that helps prevent arteriosclerosis and also lowers the

level of triglycerides.

Prevent coronary disorders, such as myocardial infarction

This is due to yam and richness of tomato in potassium and very low in fat.

Recommendation

This recipe (yam with tomato sauce serve with banana shake) is highly recommended

for people that want to protect and have a healthy arteries and heart.

Ingredients Quantities

Yam 750g

Tomatoes 1kg (2 pounds)

Carrots 1 medium size

Onion 1 medium bulb

Olive oil 6 tablespoons

Magi 2 cubes

Method of preparation

Wash the tomatoes

Chop and blend the tomatoes, onion and carrot, fry with 3 tablespoons of olive oil.

Cook on a medium fire for 20 minutes from the time that the liquid from the

tomatoes begins to boil.

Stir occasionally.

You may need to add a teaspoon of sugar to counteract the acidity of the tomato.

Peel, wash and chop the yams.

Boil yam in salted water until they are tender.

Drain/rinse the yam and fry/saut� them in 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a frying

pan.

Add the tomato sauce.

Cook on a low flame for 10minutes.

Serve hot with cold banana shake/ drink.

Banana shake or drink

Bananas are high in potassium and low in sodium. They have B vitamins, magnesium

and fibre. They also contain small amount of serotonin, a vasodilating substance

that improves blood circulation in the arteries.

Therapeutic properties of banana shake

Intake of banana shake helps prevent high blood pressure, myocardial infarction and

arteriosclerosis.

Ingredients (4 servings) Quantities

Banana 2 medium size

Orange juice 1/2 litre (1/2 quart)

Molasses 2 tablespoons

Water 250ml (1cup)

Method of preparation

Peel and chop the bananas.

Place all the ingredients (banana and orange juice) in a tall container.

Blend until a creamy mixture is obtained.

Serve the shake in goblets with crushed ice.
