77Modern Asian movies
The movies makers of Asia have been busy and in addition to the great amount of material they publish for their domestic viewers, the continue to make crossover hits that click with western audiences. This webpage deals with movies made in Asia but desiged to appeal to a broader world wide audience.
Te majority of the crossover movies coming out of Asia are from 4 countries, India, China, Korea, Japan. This webpage will initially focus on the products of the movie industries of these countries. However, I will also include movies made in Europe and the USA if they are primary set in Asia with a Largely Asian cast. Thus "Slumdog Millionaire" and "Bend it like Beckham" are most definitely prospects.
The movies reviewed here will be the ones I have viewed.

The warlords
Based on a true story, this is film is set in 1860s during the Taiping Rebellion in China. It follows three friends who become warlords . Essentially, They where Chaps who appear to have raised Armies to fight for the Emperial court, but without full regular Army status.
Here is a brief synopsis of the plot: Qing-Yun(Jet li) loses a battle in which his first Army is destroyed , he meets an unknown woman(Xu Jinglei) who comforts him and they have a one night stand. He falls in with 2 Brothers and their Village of bandits. The two brothers Wu-Yang Takesh Kaneshiro, and Er-Hu (Andy Lau) are taled into follwing Qing-Yun. Then the unknown woman who had comforted Quing-Yun returns into all their lives.
The three friend spend the next years involved in some remarkable battles, the end result is great recognition at the Emperial court, but the price they pay for that recognition is shocking. There are no saints in this movie, but the characters are very well developed. It is a very good movie.

House of Flying Daggers
The House of Flying Daggers are an organisation in rebellion against the Empire. The organisation send infiltrators into the Empire forces. Due to a remarkable series on events, two of the spies end up leading a senior police officer to their Secret head quaters. Love and lust have struck again :)
The Boss woman is not best please and sure enough there is trouble. There are quite a few surprises in this movie. Andy Lau, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Zhang Ziyi give splendid performances in the Lead roles.
I am not a fan of the Fad towards flying persons and Daggers which Fly further than a Long bow arrow, However inspite of these bits, the rest of the script was good

The host
The Host is a Korean movie about a Genetically Mutated Sea Creature. Yep, its a Korean Monster movie. Its a curious movie, following the life of a Beach dwelling Single father Whose Life is turned upside down by the Arrival of the "monster". Plus we get to see what appears to be some of the social dynamic between South Koreans and their US alies.
The story line is very simple, however, the movie maker does develop the few characters that the movie Highlights. The creature effect are actually very good, the Creature is very mobile and the effects do not suffer from closeup camera shots. Plus, the animation is remarkable. All in all , a decent Creature feature or Monster movie

I saw a Japanese horror flick called " Audition " that was just totally creepy ! And the Koreans do a good bit of cinema too . " Old Boy " was fantastic.
