Astral Projection--Power of Mind

Each time I decipher a different dimension of the human mind, I see myself delving more in to the unexplored and intriguing depths of our ‘core of consciousness’ which we so proudly carry on our shoulders—the head. Inside this seemingly small head, lies a vast expanse, constituting the limitless, boundless and seamless layers of consciousness. We spend most part of our lives, totally unaware of the massive potential which our subtle brain has. Some people are fortunate enough to get acquainted with its latent power, in the process of coming face to face with some unexplained and mystical spiritual phenomenon, which can, in some cases, be simply electrifying. Again, such experiences can occur accidentally (on their own), or can be consciously induced. Although, there are people who teach the self-induced techniques for triggering of spiritual experiences, yet, I prefer the natural way. I believe that an apple should be plucked from the tree when it’s ripe which means that a person should expose himself to such phenomena when he is completely ready and spiritually mature to handle the effects caused, as otherwise it might leave long lasting fears and jitters in the mind.

Astral Projection
Astral Projection

Astral Projection

I’ve always wondered why only a few chosen ones are blessed with the power of being able to master some amazing techniques like Telekinesis, Astral projection, Out of Body Experiences (OBE), psychic abilities, teleporting, telepathy and lucid dreaming. As a young adult, I used to think that such people are perhaps born with the abilities to see beyond the realms of the ethereal self but with the passage of time it dawned on me that such abilities are a result of the spiritual evolution of the soul and the accumulated Karma, which again brings our attention to our ‘Past life’ actions. As our soul journeys through time, seeking one body after the other, it attains maturity on a spiritual level and brings us closer to our ‘Ultimate Realty’, our consciousness. All our good deeds in the Past and Present accumulate and we attain the realization of the purpose of our existence and also our source and destination. The ‘Third eye’ opens and we become conscious of ourselves being a part of the cosmos as a whole. This is the stage of spiritual awakening. As we reach this level, disassociating / disconnecting our consciousness from our physical state becomes easier. We are able to travel anywhere in the cosmos without the help of our physical body and this process is termed as Astral Projection.

Deja Vu
Deja Vu

Astral Projection---Déjà vu

The process of astral projection might last only from a few seconds to a few minutes but during that exceptionally short time we might see places which we have never seen with our physical eyes before. It makes me wonder if Déjà vu can be a result of such out-of body-experiences in some cases. Nothing can be said for certain, though. Déjà vu has also been attributed to a recollection of past life memories. However, the mystery still remains unraveled. Speaking for myself, I had a similar experience when I walked into the school building with my son on his first day at High School. As I was climbing up the staircase of an 8-storey building, I had a weird feeling that I had been there before, several times; the feeling became more intensified as I touched the hand rails while climbing the stairs. I wonder how I dreamt of his name in the list of selected candidates (in the State Test) much before his results were out. Strange are the ways in which our brain functions. It’s hard to imagine the extent to which our brain impulses reach; it can see through the closed doors and locked drawers of the examiners. :)  Dangerous…isn’t it?

Simple Techniques for Astral Projection

For those who want to practice this area of paranormal, I would suggest getting acquainted with deep meditation first whereby a practitioner learns how to keep his mind awake even when the body sleeps. Astral projection requires your mind to be awake and as such you have to train your body to slip into a state of perfect peace and relaxation so as to let your mind travel. Here are some simple ways to get started:

1. It is not necessary to sit cross legged as in conventional meditation as the purpose is to put the physical body at rest. This can be achieved while sitting in a reclining chair or even by lying on your back in your bed. Some trainers suggest morning as the best time for this practice as that time your body is completely rested and there are less chances of falling asleep due to exhaustion.

2. Close your eyes and breathe in and out slowly and deeply. Try to breathe in through nose and exhale through mouth. After a few minutes of focusing on breathing, let loose your body and try not to pay attention to any part of your body. Your focus should be on your mind and your thoughts. Don’t try to control thoughts as that would indirectly bind you to your physical state.

3. After a few minutes of closing your eyes and constant (effortless) deep breathing, try to see through the darkness with your mind’s eye. (A well balanced chakra system and opened Third eye helps here). Gradually the darkness will get replaced by different color patterns. These are simple neural discharges so don’t worry about them. Try to look beyond these colors. To cross this level would take a lot of practice. It doesn’t happen easily.

Out of Body experience
Out of Body experience

4. Post level 3 as above, some people soon get into the vibration stage which is when the body experiences minor jolts or the feeling may even manifest in the form of throbbing or trembling. When this level is reached, it means that the body is ready for astral projection. Some people get so much overcome with fear at this stage that they freak out at the idea of leaving their physical self. If this happens, the practice should be stopped there and then. There is no point in pushing yourself to do something for which you are not prepared. Such practices are meant to bring peace rather than fear. Vibrations can also be induced by certain techniques which I’m not mentioning here as I believe that ‘inducing’ would amount to placing yourself at the war front when you’re not ready to handle the cross fire. Let it come naturally to you.

5. As soon as the body vibrates, get ready to leave your body. The key point is to maintain control over your mind and the state which you are in. If your mind wanders, you will tend to lose hold over that state of mind and you will not be able to disconnect with your physical body. More importantly, do not fear and do not get overwhelmed.

6. In the vibration stage, visualize yourself getting lighter and lighter till the consciousness rises and leaves your body. Another technique (if you’re lying on your back) is to roll over without moving your physical body. It needs tremendous control over your mind, I repeat, at this stage, and don’t let go even for a single moment. During vibrations, astral projections occur with ease and when it happens you can see your body from outside but you still remain connected with the silver cord (like the umbilical cord) which might or might not be visible to you. In most of the cases, it lasts only for a few seconds and your consciousness snaps back into your physical body.

A word of caution: Undertake this process only if you feel strong and fearless in your heart. Don’t get into this if you are not ready. You might just freak out to see yourself out of your own body.

Wow. This is fascinating. Often at night, just before falling asleep, I 'remember' places and situations, even the feelings that accompanied them--except these are not places or situations from my life. I feel like these really are past life memories, but here's the odd thing--if I focus on them, it actually hurts my head. It's like whacking my head against glass or something, like warning or a 'zap'! lol! I have to kind of 'see them sideways' not head on, if that makes any sense.

It's always the same places etc--not different ones every time--and I recognize them. I always feel like a little push and I'd get all the information but that little push, it feels like no, I shouldn't do it. (Does this sound totally daft?)

I was interested also in your opinions about teachers who help people develop these abilities. I am thinking of working on this but am very ambivalent about it for the reasons you mentioned, and others. I always worry about gurus, you know? They can be very good or very bad. If only these answers were easy and we could just look them up in a book or something. It's so hard especially in the west because it isn't at all a part of our tradition and if you talk about it people take you for a psychotic. And also, people really do go off the edge if they push past their comfort level. This kind of work really can be destabilizing.

I really appreciate your presence here at HP. You really help me feel more normal and grounded just by being here writing about this stuff. This was fabulous, thank you.

I've had a couple of OBE (out of body experiences) myself when I was younger, though none of them were planned, and in each case I was in a big hurry to get back to my body. Like Pam I've had repeated glimpses of living another life with the same events replayed over and over like a video clip and I've no clue whether they are past life glimpses or something that my brain has conjured up in response to a long forgotten movie.

Astral projection could be a useful skill, but it's not a trip I'm ready to take just yet!

jayb23: I'm glad you liked it but please don't try it only for having some fun. If you're not mature enough to handle the 'cause & effect', it will be like playing with fire. So pl be careful. Thx so much for your appreciation.

my-success-guru: You've had clairvoyance experiences? Thats great. Would you like to share a couple of those here. That might make this thread a bit more interesting. :) Thx for being generous to me all the time.

Hi Pam! Well, psychotic is a word used by sceptics and I'm not one. It is what it is...thats what I say when people try to question me or raise their eyebrows. It doesn't matter to me what they think of me. I know what I see and I'm comfortable with that. Speaking for you, those visions that you get in your sleep might have something to do with your past life. Try to think hard sometimes to figure out what you actually see. Its quite likely that your subconscious is sending signals to you for completing some unfinished task .(I can't say for sure as I don't know what exactly you see). It usually happens when the soul attains a particular age and is required to perform some designated 'Karma'. I normally don't let it go in vain. There is nothing useless or meaningless that comes from our subconsious or from the cosmos. We sometimes need to respond before we run out of time. About Gurus...as you said, we've to be very careful about the Masters we choose. It might sound crazy but I believe that when the time is right, the Guru appears without having the need to search for him. That is the Eastern philosophy. There is a designated time for everything. all we need to do is to seek help from higher energy and it will respond. Please do not push yourself into anything as that might cause imbalance and discomfort in your entire system. Take it easy but do try to figure out the meaning of your dreams. It is said that 'no matter how much someone tries to interpret your dreams..only you know what they mean.' Thx a lot Pam for giving your love and support to me. (Hugs)

Amanda: Like I said in the hub, it's always better if it happens on its own. Don't try to push it. People induce these things all the time. It's alright if you have absolutely no fears and concerns and if you really enjoy the phenomenon. If you don't feel that way, better not do it. Speaking of your dreams, you might want to read my reply to Pam's comment as it covers the same issue. I love to have you visiting my hubs. Thx a ton.

Hi Anjali,

Yes, I am glad to share my  clairvoyance experiences. Somehow I was able to tell my roommate at college places he went during the day and thoughts he had that by common logic I shouldn't have known. This type of thing has happened to me several times. Often I can tell people what they are wearing without seeing them or describe what they are seeing or what a room in their house looks like without ever seeing it. I also have had dreams come true and sometimes in my dreams I know I am dreaming and control my dream.  For some reason I keep having a recurring dream I'm levitating.

Blessings,

Jim

my-success-guru: Thats awesome, especially that levitating dream. This shows you would be capable of disassociating from your physical body if you ever try doing so. It's good to know one's own potential and even better to keep adding on to it. If you have some strength try to make use of it for someone's good. That's what is called...'Pay it forward.' Thx for coming back.

Yeah it's like that.  Though it happened to me on "accident" I guess.  I didn't know what it was until it was explained to me.

I initially "feaked out"  they are still the scariest of experiences for me because it happened without me being consciously aware of it... By this I mean, like another form of consciousness that isn't exactly "consciousness" and not exactly "sub conscious" either. Its hard to explain.

Anyways, for me when it happens (which I never seek to make it happen) I know it because it sorta tingles.  A very, very strange feeling.  I start levitating.

The first time I experienced it I was staring out my window and was joyed by it.  The next time I "levitated" higher and it started to freak me out because I didn't feel in control.

After a while I could wake myself up if I didn't feel in control and till this day the farthest I have ever reached is the ceiling. But mostly it's when I get the sense of being pulled in two directions and sometimes even upside down... Though I have had other "astrol projections" that don't seem to be related to OBEs and these have to do with the stars.

Have you ever seen a star cluster?  Well it's like I go there not as me but as 'light', these too often end with a "jolt" because there is some part of me that is not ready to go the next level. Others feel more like static on an old television... it's hard to explain unless you have experienced it too.

Excellent Anjalichugh, I didn't know you were this deep.

Sandra : I exactly know what you mean...each and every word of what you mentioned. These experiences, I bet, can be scary even when one is prepared for it. Needless to say what happens if one is not ready !!!! I freaked out a couple of times myself but my experiences were different and since then, subconsciously, I try to avoid going to one particular room in my house in the night, where I had a frightening experience one night. It happened suddenly and I still get shivers when I think of it...in fact I don't have to think about it, it sort of never leaves my mind. That's why I tell people to master chakra balancing, meditation and breathing techniques before stepping into this arena. Well, if it happens accidentally, it is an indication that the time has ripened and we need to prepare ourselves. Thx very much for sharing your experiences here. It definitely added value to my hub.

Jayb23: Hey! Good to see you again. You better be careful. I don't want to see a young boy getting in trouble. :)  Gid bless you.

Anjali: I had experiences several years ago, when waking up in the morning, of floating around my room, near the ceiling. It was fun at times, could not see the etheric "me" floating, but I knew my physical body was in my bed. I could never get out of my room though, that was as far as I could go. On another occasion, I saw my etheric hand coming out of my body. I guess, I am fearful of losing control, or seeing entities I may not want to meet, as I am open to other dimensions, so have not allowed myself to have a full out of body experience. However, a part of me would love to experience this.

Loved your hub an am looking forward to part two... :)

Hi Marie: It is said that a person can go as far as he lets himself go. We have our fears which stop us from allowing our consiousness to go far away from our physical body, which is quite natural and normal too. I guess if we can overpower our fears somehow, we would be able to make it to longer distances as well. Honestly, I'm yet to master my fears. I try hard every day but still can't get the fear of darkness out of my head. :) Thx a lot for sharing a part of you here. (Hugs)

Hello Again Anj,

There are times I was laying on my bed and started to lose sense for whether I was laying or standing. Even though I knew I must still be laying on my bed I no longer felt the weightiness of my body. There was a lightness where I somehow felt free like I was floating and perhaps separate from my body. Do you think this could be a outer body experience or at least the beginning?

Hi Charia ! You're right. In most cases, it happens accidentally but there are people who teach you to do this. It's a long process though. I call that 'making things happen before time'. It has its own risks and that's why I always recommend staying away from these practices if you are not prepared. You come to know on your own when your are ready. You get signals from your consciousness and trust me, you cannot turn a deaf ear to those signals. :) Thx very much for dropping by.

I mentioned in one of my hubs that it's better to be the one 'WHOM God loves' rather than the one 'WHO loves God' (if you have to make a choice). Nice Hub! It sounds like you have psychic abilities and that you are getting information intertwined. Sometimes it takes years to sort through it all but it will be worth it in the long run. If you go with your gut feeling, your intuition more often it will strengthen your abilities. As well as writing down your dreams. I think that you were experiencing precognition at the school. That happens to me sometimes: you know, see, or feel something that later happens.

Hi, This is very interesting. I have experienced sleep paralysis since I was 15. Once I figured out what was triggering the severe scary cases I took care of that and now I mostly only have mild sleep paralysis. Recently my husband started trucking so I sleep alone. I imediately noticed things that I probably thought was my husband in the past such as feeling like the bed was shaking, impressions on the bed and recently when I am almost asleep everything will turn dead silent, I will feel my body shake slightly but consistantly and feel wave like motions in my arms and legs. The difference between this and sleep paralysis though is that I can stop it when I want and get out of bed, so I am completely awake. Once recently while on my back I felt like I floated to the ceiling. This was also after the shaking. Does this sound like anything you've experienced?

wow this is hub is amazing! Its just answered so many questions ive had to keep to myself regarding OBE's.

Ive been having these vivid dreams for aslong as i can remember. They started off infrequently maybe like 3/4 times a year, but ive just had two in one week and i was a bit worried. I had no clue about any of the things you guys have explained. I posted this as a question on yahoo, but people told me i was possesed and that my sole was being lost to the devil....which to be honest really creeped me out! Heres a tad of what i posted, id love to hear if you had any opinions or advice on the matter.

"I know im asleep, but I can feel my whole body being lifted up out of my bed, not violently, just raised up so Im floating midway inbetween bed and ceiling. Then occaisionally moved, so im on the ceiling or the wall. Its really weird, The thing is Its not so much a scary sensation, dont get me wrong the thought of me floating around freaks me out, but Its almost like something else is there. I almost always get this really windy feeling either before or after the dream like my quilt is fluttering in the wind and i have to battle really really hard to hold it onto me, literally as if someone was to rip your covers off you in the morning, its exactly like that."

Also I posted this, this morning with the bit before, as i was a bit confused and i didnt even know astral projection existed.

"Apart from that I can do this thing where i lay on my back, wide awake. Just lay there. And I relax my whole body, so im not focusing on controling anything. Eventually after a minuite or so, i get this warm feeling in my chest, and it rises up out. Not too far away from me, but it leaves for upto 5 mins, i can feel everything, when its rising, when its semi leaving my chest and when its moving around, and then as soon as i move a limb or as much as a finger, the feeling dissapears and im back to normal. I dont question what it is, or what its meant to be, just that its an amazing feeling, my description doesnt do it justice! Its so peacefull!"

From what Ive read on here im guessing thats a definate OBE?

I cant describe how nice having an answer that decsribes exactly what i feel when i have these 'dreams' is. At first they did scare me, Id wake up after just seeing myself on the roof, convinced i had just levitated thinking......s***, did that really just happen!

Atleast now i can try to embrace the feeling, as now atleast i know what it is. Trying to embrace something that you have no knowledge of, and that scares you so much would have been very difficult.

Also I dont have many flashbacks/forwards as much now, but my mums told me stories of when i was a child, and id say things that would creep them out a bit.

Apparently once when i was about 4yrs old, we had travelled down to norfolk, uk, to see my grandparents. On the way we had stopped at a pub for a break, as we were sitting in this old norfolk pub, apparently i put down my drink and walked across the room, turned around and said, "mum, ive been here before, my name was shaun and i had a bow and arrow"

Needless to say they shrugged it off but she said it was pretty creepy at the time.

Anyway, heres the link to the yahoo question i posted....

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqoiM

As you can see the responses really didnt help...unlike this amazing hub! :P

I would definately love to hear your opinions on my experiences though. Who knows, maybe you can help me refine my technique or help me Astral Project further than i currently can. Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Many thanks

Stu

Milkystu: It's sad to see how people choose to comment on something about which they have little or no knowledge (In reference to Yahoo posts). If I'm not wrong there was only one person on your yahoo link who did mention OBE and the rest was just crap...just disregard those mindless posts. Speaking of your experiences, it's clearly OBE. It does scare initially but when you get used to it, it can be the most peaceful experience. I don't know if you read my other hubs on Paranormal (especially the one about past lives). If you did get a chance to read them, you would know better that we keep oscillating between our different levels of consciousness which creates effects (manifestations), difficult for human mind to understand. You are certainly a spiritually evolved person and it seems that you are totally unaware of it. You need to keep your mind, body and soul in sync so that you reach higher levels of realization (which is the purpose of human life). I always suggest 'meditation' as the best tool for bringing harmony between the inner and outer self. If you have time, try to read my hubs on Chakras before going on to paranormal hubs. You might get the answer to most of your questions. You can find quick links to all my hubs on my profile page. Thx for sharing your experiences here. Feel free to come back.
