Springing from the indie rock hotbed of Brooklyn, NY The Attorneys are a vivacious young band poised to turn more than a few heads with their energetic and engaging debut. Like their power trio heroes The Police and The Jam, The Attorneys fill their sonic space with as much breadth and spunk as three young guys can muster and finesse the final mix with modern sensibilities of bands like Hot Hot Heat and The Futureheads. In fact, if you didn’t know the band was from Brooklyn, you’d swear the curdled falsetto of singer William Ryan George was lifted somewhere from Northern England! The band rattles through each of the album’s ten tracks with an adept grasp of the pop music spectrum - from the bouncy pep of opener “On a Whim” to the 70’s-soul tinged “Open Up” to the trashy garage punk of “She Got It.” All three possess formidable musical talents - especially guitarist John Wlaysewski who spatters many songs with rich, often complex guitar textures and even the token harmonized guitar solos. The spacey, yet energetic post-punk sprawl of album closer ”Not a Bad Way To Spend an Evening” is an appropriately titled sign-off - especially for those looking for their soundtrack to a Saturday night out in the city. - Jeff Shelton
