What is passion?

By definition passion applies to an emotion that is deeply stirring or ungovernable. It pushes us to pursue those things that we dream about every day. Passion is what makes a good movie great, or turns a painting into art. Whether we recognize it or not I think we all are passionate about something in our lives.

There was a long period in my life where I was not sure I knew what I wanted to do with my life. I felt lost and had forgotten some of the things I loved and enjoyed most. My mind was cluttered with the dram associated with adolescence. Then one day my adolescence was taken away in a heart beat. That was the day I discovered my life was no longer just about me. That was the day I found out I was pregnant. My life would never be the same and it was time for me to make some hard choices.

I was barely what you would call an adult at the time. Naturally everyone was in shock, especially my unborn child's "father". My relationships, emotions, and life were a complete mess! Reality slapped me in the face and said "It's time to grow up, RIGHT NOW!". As terrified as I was and in-spite of the other challenges I was facing, I could not help but think of this as an opportunity for a new and better life. This reality check (who would later be named Alora) awoke in me a passion for life. I started to recall my dreams that had felt lost and hopeless for so long. I knew that this child was going to give me the passion, drive, and motivation to pursue my dreams.

It takes time!

That was seven, almost eight years ago. Every day I look at my daughter and think about her I am reminded of my dreams and why I have to pursue them. My passion grows and expands everyday and I don't see how I could go a day with out it. When I think of successful people I imagine that they are deeply passionate. It is my passion that brought me to this site. I have a deep deep love for so many things, writing being at the top of that list.

It has taken seven years and I am still no where near where I want to be. Passion has been there every step of the way pushing me to never give up. I know that for my daughter and for myself I have to pursue the things I love most. I know in the long run it will bring me much more success and happiness then any other job I have no emotion or love for.

I think we are given passion as a tool to guide us to success and happiness. You could be the richest person on the planet and be completely miserable if you are not doing something you are passionate about. Though the chances are likely you will only see mild monetary success if you are not passionate about what you do. You won't have the drive to work as hard or care as much as someone who is passionate about their work.

What is success?

I define success as being the moment when one reaches the point in which they are satisfied and happy with their life. I don't expect anyone will ever be 100% satisfied every aspect of their life. That's unrealistic because life is unpredictable and imperfect by nature. When the moment arrives, you will know. I feel I am getting closer, but I also know that I still have a long way to go.

A great example of success, in every sense of the word, driven by passion would be Donald Trump. Put aside you any notions you have about him, he is not who you think. In his book Think Big and Kick Ass in Business and in Life,he talks about how he came to be who he is. You find out quickly he is not the tough mean guy you see portrayed on television. You discover a man who knew what he wanted to and pursued it with great passion. He uses his passion for real estate and "deal making" as he calls it, to create great success. He reiterates over and over the importance of passion and how greatly it will effect where you go in life. If Donald Trump does not prove how greatly passion will effect your success, then I don't know what will.

All of the most successful people in the world have gotten because of their passion. Al Gore, an advocate for awareness of global warming, has been succesfull in his pursuit to inform us all because of his passion. Every great musician, writer, acter calls upon their passion to create their success. It is our tool, our compass, our map to success.

GET OUT THERE AND DO IT!

Life is too short and we only get one, so now is the time to act. There is no such thing as a "right time". There is always a way, no matter how small, for you to start acting on or pursuing your passions and dreams. Travel if you want to travel. Write if you want to write! Support a cause if you want to support a cause. There is no better time then the present to pursue a better life. Let you passion kick you in the butt and get you moving. Think of it this way, even if it takes years to be successful, at-least your doing something you love in the meantime. I may not be the next Charles Dickens, but writing is what I love most and I am satisfied knowing I have not given up. I am happy with the fact that I am at least able to write for an audience (however small) every day. So, get out there and DO IT NOW!

It is odd I have gradually been accumulating 300 words here and another 300 words there on passion over the last three months. Now I will have to watch my words and thoughts so I will not stand on your toes.I will come back to you.
