Have Fun Bathing With Your Baby!

It is definitely not an easy task to bath your baby especially when he is a newborn. The size of your newborn is quite small and it's not easy for you to hold and support him firmly in your single hand if you don't have experience.

I still remember when my BabyMoon was a newborn, I dare not bath for her because she was just a tiny girl and we need to take good care of her umbilical cord. I just worried her umbilical cord would get wet if I were too careless. However, I know it's a learning curve as a new mother and I have tried to bath her. I would say that it's lots of fun bathing your baby and you will enjoy the bathing and bonding time with her.

Always becareful before the baby's umbilical cord heals. When bathing your baby, try to avoid water on his umbilical cord. For chinese, we apply medicine oil on it and it helps to heal the umbilical cord faster. For non experience new parents, you can sponge bath your baby until his umbilical cord heals.

Here are some steps that you can follow when sponge bath your newborn.

1. Choose a good place - You have to choose a place that you and your newborn feel comfortable for the sponge bath. A changing table, bed, a counter next to the sink or even the floor are a good choice.

2. Soft padding - If you were to place your newborn on hard surfaces like floor or counter next to the sink, you need to pad the hard surfaces with a towel or blanket to make your baby more comfortable.

3. Get all your baby supplies - You might need basin, baby soap, towel, baby clothes, powder, baby lotion all within your reach.

4. Clean his face - After you have get ready, start his bath with the face. Use your hand to support your baby firmly while another hand gently stroke his face with a dampened cloth.

5. Clean his body - You could clean his neck, little arms and legs with a mild baby soap. Don't forget to put more attention on his diaper area. Clean his diaper area carefully and check if he has diaper rash.

Your baby is ready for a real bath once his umbilical cord heals. It would normally take one week time. It's lot of fun when your baby is ready to real bath.

Tips to bath your baby

1. Things to prepare - You need to have a basin or baby bathtub with rubber backing. Rubber backing is important to avoid your baby slips into the water and it also helps you to hold your baby better with single hand. You also need a small plastic cup for pour your baby.

2. Temperature of water - Must always check the temperature of the bath water. The baby's skin is very sensitive and soft, he might get hurt if the water is too hot or too cool.

3. Start with feet - Place your baby into the water with his feet first. Let him get used with the warm water and you can now use the small plastic cup to pour gently over your baby's body.

4. Clean from the top - Clean your baby's hair and body with a mild baby shampoo. Do remember to avoid the eyes area even the shampoo is stated no tears formula. Lastly is the diaper area.

5. Bundle your baby - Immediately bundle your baby in a towel when the bath is over to eliminate the possibility of your baby catching a chill. Dry his hair and body fast and dress him.

Warm baths help in preparing your baby for sleep. Let them have some fun at the bathing time and he may then sleep soundless.
