What do you do when your baby teethe's? How do you know they are teething and when do they start?

Teething can be a painful process for your little one. Some children teeth only for a short period of time, with little discomfort and some chidren can teeth over a long, drawn out painful process that can last weeks or months. Generally teething starts around six months, but it can start as early as three months, or as late as a year. There is no guarantee when your baby is going to cut their first tooth.

Some of the signs of teething are : Irritability, drooling, coughing, chin rash, biting, knawing, cheek rubbing and ear pulling, diarrhea, low-grade fever, not sleeping well and cold / flu-like symptoms. Your child may experience some but not all of these symptoms. There are ways you can help treat your child if they experience any of these discomforts. It's not a guarantee that they work, but some parents say anything is worth a try so their baby is more at ease.

Teetheing rings, water filled, chilled rubber toys. Toy's R us and sears usually have a great variety and they are pretty easy to find on sale; a cold bottle of water; cold food; chilled applesauce, chilled peach pieces or yoghurt; You can also use a clean finger to gently rub and apply presure to your childs gum to help releive the pain. If nothing works, you can try using medication prescribed by your GP
