Is Your Baby Smart?

Parents always hope that their baby is smarter than others, so do I. I also hope that my Baby Moon is smart and clever. Some infant-development experts believe that the first years of a child's life are a prime time for learning. I totally believe this statement and I have find ways to make my Baby Moon become smarter. Here I share with you some of my findings and I hope that you can also use these ways to help your baby and perhaps you also have a smart baby.

Breastfeed - Breastfeed your baby as long as you can and some researches has proven that infants who were breastfeeding tend to have higher IQs compare to formula fed. Other than that, breastfeed is also a great time for your bonding and your baby will feel more secure with your nursing.

Sing songs to your baby - Learn and sing songs to your baby. There are researches show that learning the rhythms of music is linked to a learning math. Therefore try to learn as many tunes as you can and you can also make up your own verses. Enjoy the songs with your baby and she will be happy and sing with you too.

Joke around with your baby - Try to build her sense of humor by joking with her. You can point to her nose and call her "mommy" and then tell your child that you were being silly and laugh at your "joke". By doing this several times, she will get your joke and know that your are playing joke with her.

Diaper time - Some parents find diaper time a hard time and most father reluctants to change the diaper for the baby. Actually diaper time is a good education time and you can use this moment to teach your child her body parts or piece of clothing.

Play with your child - You can help to boost her coordination and problem-solving skills by playing with her. The ways can be lie down on the floor and let your baby climb and crawl all over you. Or you crawl through the house and let her follow behind. Follow her lead when she gets older, she will now stretch her creativity and to see if you really follow what she does, like crawl backward and make silly noises.

Vocabulary building - When take your baby for strolling, always narrate what you see such as "Did you see the big tree?" "This is little cat" etc. You can also bring your child to supermarket and point her the things display on the shelves. Teach her the name or the colors of the food or goods inside the supermarket.

Grab a tissue - Parents will normally scold the child when she tries to pull tissues out of the box. I never scold my Baby Moon when she is pulling tissues out but let her do that. She is duplicating our action and what we do is teach her to do it correctly and let her know we could only do that when we need to use tissues. Now she is a good helper to get us tissue when we need it.

Count everything - Count your toddler's fingers and toes or numbers of toys she has. Make a habit of counting out loud and let her join you and count your own fingers and toes too. You can also count the steps together with your child when go strolling. That makes lots of fun.

Read her books - Scientists have found that babies can learn to recognize the sequence of words in a story when it's read 2 or 3 times in a row. So, read your child story and help her learn language. You can fix a reading time with her and she will get excited everytime you read her story.

Show her family album - Help your toddler to recognize your relative and help her build the memories. When your relative calls, always show her your relative picture as her listens on the phone. Sooner, she can recognize the person who calls and point the picture of the caller.

There are many other ways to make your baby smarter and what are your ways? Maybe it's your turn to share with us.

Like the tips and suggestions. My wife and I had just had a baby (about two months ago) and we've been singing to him a lot.

Thanks so much for putting together this list.
