Baked Salmon

Baked salmon makes a very healthy and delicious meal. The fish is low in calories and carbohydrates and rich in omega 3 fatty acids. Because salmon is so flavorful you only need a few simple herbs, spices, or other basic ingredients to enhance the flavor, making this fish very easy to prepare. Baking salmon is quick and simple and can be prepared ahead of time.

There are two major ways you can bake salmon.

  • You can bake the salmon in foil. To do this, cut a piece of aluminum foil and brush it with melted butter. Then place the salmon on the foil along with butter, wine, vegetables or herbs and seal the foil tightly to keep in the moisture and heat. The salmon will cook in its own juices along with the flavorings you have added.
  • You can bake the salmon on a roasting tray or in a glass baking dish along with herbs, spices, butter, white wine or other flavorings to keep the salmon moist while it bakes.

Baked Salmon Recipes

Here are three easy salmon recipes to try. Enjoy!

Baked Salmon Fillets

Ingredients

6 tablespoons light olive oil
2 cloves of minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon fresh, chopped parsley
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 salmon fillets

DIRECTIONS

Prepared the marinade in a glass bowl. Mix the garlic, basil, parsley, olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon juice together. Set the salmon fillets into a glass baking dish, and cover the fish with the marinade. Marinate salmon in the refrigerator for about an hour, turning occasionally.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Place the salmon fillets in aluminum foil, cover with the marinade, and seal tightly . Set the sealed salmon into the glass baking dish. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until the fish easily flakes with a fork.

Baked Salmon with Rosemary

Ingredients

1 tablespoon of chopped fresh rosemary
3 cloves of minced garlic
5 tablespoons of olive oil
Salt and fresh ground pepper
Juice of one lemon and lemon wedges
12 ounce salmon fillet

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Spread the rosemary, salt and pepper and minced garlic on both sides of the salmon. Set the salmon into a roasting pan coated with olive oil. Sprinkle the remainder of the olive oil over the salmon. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.

Use a fork to check see if the salmon is fully cooked. If the fork goes in easily and the meat makes little resistance, this means the salmon is done.

Sprinkle the salmon with lemon juice and serve with lemon wedges.

Baked Salmon Steaks With Herb Baste

1 tablespoon fresh, chopped parsley
1 tablespoon fresh, chopped basil
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon. grated lemon peel
4 salmon steaks

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl except for the salmon. Baste the salmon with the herb mixture.

Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for about 10 minutes per each inch of thickness.

Brush with the herb baste as needed.

How To Cook Salmon Tips

  • Salmon must be fresh. When buying salmon it should look fresh and have no odor. Refrigerate the salmon until you are ready to cook it. Cook within 1-2 days of buying it.
  • Keep it simple. Salmon is naturally very flavorful so a few simple herbs and vegetables will make a very tasty meal. There is no need to over complicate things.
  • Don't overcook and use the proper temperature. For a major of baked salmon recipes 350 to 375 degrees F is optimal.
  • To determine whether the salmon is cooked, use a fork to test the resistance of the salmon meat. If there is little resistance that means the fish is done.
