Basic Obedience Training
58Having a pet dog is very exciting, it brings life into your home, makes you feel happy. But would it still make you happy if your dog doesn't obey your command or does not behave well? I wouldn't think so. Every dog needs some training, although most of them are domesticated, they still have the tendency to let out certain bad behaviors. Serious training is needed to achieve success, obedience training is important.
There are some suggestions on instructing your dogs to comply with your rules, as follows:
1.Never reprimand or punish your dog during training. Your dog's concentration wont be focused if he has negative feelings. He may tend to not follow your command anymore.
2. Rewarding is a very important aspect of training. It helps the dog to focus on the task so that he gets a reward. Rewards can come in many form, such as petting and hugging them or giving them their favorite treat. Careful not to give too much though as this will distract the dog from the real goal, which are your commands.
3. As the dogs owner, you know your dog very well. Give your dog easy commands at first, start with the basic such as sit and stay, then progress slowly as your dog amsters them. Don't give them hard to accomplish task since its only the beginning.
4. Do not be so stiff or upright to them; dogs have their personalities too. Most of them are very playful, sometimes naughty. Depending on what age you start your training, instruct them according to their stage of obedience.
5.Fine/penalize do not punish your dog. This two terms mean very different in obedience dog training. Penalize is the lesser evil of the two. An example could be ignoring your dog, or leasing him for a longer time, ultimately the dog will feel guilty and will start to behave.
It's important to know what stimulates your dog to follow your command. It could be his favorite rubber ball, hugging or petting him or giving him his favorite treat. Give your dog the necessary praise he needs after he successfully does your instruction, make him feel good about himself. Allow a few mins of playtime after training. Your dog can also get tired and bored. By giving him this spare time to play, he will look forward to another trainignday with you.
It takes all the patience that have to train your dog, but rest assured, once you have successfully trained your dog, you will receive praises from other people knowing your dog knows how to obey and behave well.
Make sure to do the obedience trainign everyday, to keep your dogs memory in focus. It will make him more familiar to the routine. The main reason for obedience training is to be able to have a fun loving and obedient companion. Be able to have a well-mannered relationship with your dog.
