In this article, I feel you can have better understanding when I tell my story rather than I explain the theory and argument.
Before it begin, I tell you the background story. In 2002, I worked in assurance company, they have three assurance departments, car, shipping, and the one I really can't remember. The car assurance department consumed so much paper just for policy, in every early month I have to allocate for them 20 boxes, each one consist 5 packed and each packed consist 500 exemplar papers and it just minimum stocks, so sometimes I have to reallocate shipping department paper for them and even my department ( human resources department and I work as general affairs).
The car assurance department also have so many unextended policy, all became unused papers, unfortunately according company rule we can't sell them, they had to be destroyed. My director human resources management see this condition and order to us for collecting all unused papers for reuse again, this a touch work, we collect 10 super duper box and fill it to my room turn it like the warehouse than office room. I can't understand his orders, for me that time, more saving cost to destroy the papers.
We use this paper for internal use like leave, sick and request form also photocopy, internal report and information board, but before we use it, we have to make big X sign in fill side so the reader don't read wrong side. This policy make us not depend on paper quota and can reallocate it to car assurance department and it make me out of radar from general affair headquarter who always demand explanation when we raise the order than usually. It also increase our support to car assurance department without additional cost.
The benefit for my department? We have huge papers stock for years and free from paper quota, but this policy can't be accepted another department, so benefit using unused paper can't be reflect in report, but my boss satisfied because we have much room for reallocate paper resources without hearing objection from each department.
Benefit for me? I always keep unused paper and use it my own, like printer testing, modeling database and many more.
