Ok I'm back onto beach weddings. This hub is not one about the philosophies of Feng Shui but rather how to incorporate some of the very basic elements into your beach wedding.
In case you're new to Feng Shui (fung shway),here's a quick summary.
This ancient Chinese system of aesthetics is believed to use the laws of both Heaven and Earth to help one improve life by receiving positive energy. The way in which you place your furniture, possessions, and yourself within your surroundings largely determines your life experience at every level, including how you think and act, which in turn affects how well you perform in your personal and professional life.
The Three founding principles of Feng shui are;
- Qi [Chi]-representative of energy of life force
- Polarity-a contrasting harmony as expressed by the yin yang
- Bagua- the four cardinal directions in relation to the the elements of fire, water, earth, metal and the various aspects of love, prosperity and health
With that said as a recent bride I know how your
wedding is considered to be the most important day of any brides life and its the one day of your life which you want everything to be perfect. You cant predict how the event will turn out but you can exercise a few key Feng Shui principles to ensure a perfect balance between the universe and your big day.
Although you may already be enaging with mother nature by having your wedding on the beach, you can still incorporate all the elements for a holistic approach.
DATE AND TIME OF WEDDING
- The numbers 8 and 9 are considered the luckiest, the 8 symbolizing infinity and 9 represents fulfillment. The 8th day of the 8th month (i.e. August 8) could be considered the best day for permanence since the number 8 features twice , making the possibility of success twice likely.
- Accordingly, Feng Shui logic, the 8th, 9th, 18th, 19th, 28th and 29th are ideal wedding dates.
- If these don't suit you then most Feng Shui practitioners believe that any date that adds up to the number 8 is favored for commitment.
VENUE
- If your ceremony is on the shore then take into
account the cardinal direction you wish to face, and the arrangements of
guests chairs. Why not consider a circular arrangement, that way you
will guaranteed to be the centre of attention.
- If
you plan on having an indoor reception then use the Bagua guide as
reference point when choosing location and layout of your ceremonial
and reception venues.Overlay the bagua diagram over a simple sketch
plan of your venue to help guide you in arranging the space.
- Consider careful placement of the cake in the room. and layout of main table in relation to other guests.
- If
you are having an indoor reception make sure the entire room is light,
if there are dark corners, drape bright colours fabrics or place a
plants or more lighting in this spot.
COLOR
The color scheme which you choose for your wedding will set the mood for the whole event. Listed below are a few color representations;
Red: creates a strong atmosphere of love and romance.
Pink: playfulness and lightheartedness but also youth femininity and delicacy
Purple and violet: a rich passionate colour, its almost intense and overwhelming.
Black and white: like the yin and yang it represents a strong contrast but balance and sense of harmony.
THE 5 ELEMENTS
- You
are already at the seaside so you may not necessarily need to
incorporate water, but you can but introducing hung vases or a water
fountains.
- Incorporate metal in wind chimes, this have catch the wind and have a really calming effect. or the use of candle holders and lanterns
- Open fires may be a health hazard, but incorporate fire in the abundant use of candles.
- To
symbolise a new beginning at the end of the ceremony some couple opt to
set free doves or butterflies. This is purely a personal preference.
I hope this hub was useful to you.

Betsy

I love the wind chimes. I'm a designer myself, I help people with their interior makeovers. And I'm also an eco-freak! I like to reuse cans. I'm going to make those chimes out of recycled cans. I can so see that being a hit with my clients. So even though I'm not getting again soon, your page has been so useful, Betsy. Thank you!
JosefS thanks for the kind words.
Tyra glad you were inspired, making chimes out of cans is an excellent idea.I imagine you could do the same with bottle caps or even just hang 10 green bottles:)!
