Instead of the formal rehearsal dinner, why not have a beach party /wedding rehearsal instead, after all you will be having a beach wedding.This will give guests a chance to get their feet wet, and break the ice, between the two new families.Not to mention save on costs of hiring a venue and caterers.

You could opt for a catered barbecue or a good old fashioned one by the family or a beach picnic.Once You get the formalities of the rehearsal done, there's plenty of fun to be had on the beach for young and old.

Some of the pros of this casual style rehearsal include;

  • Saving you time, money and energy looking for a suiteble venue.
  • Saving on the caterer (if you opt of for a do-it -yourself barbecue.
  • You could opt for a bring -n barbecue , where guests bring dishes of their choice,it can help get the family involved and a chance to show off their culinary skills.Try out and show off old family recipes.
  • Saving on awkwardness when two families meet for the first time-the casual beach atmosphere will help break the ice between guests meeting for the first time.
  • You don't necessarily need yo hire entertainment, there's plenty of activities for all to enjoy on the beach.

Plan the day to include different activities like beach volleyball or swimming, surfing and other water sport, building sandcastles.It will feel more like a summer holiday rather than a wedding rehearsal.

  • If the venue is different from the beach ceremony location then make sure to check if you are permitted to have a beach party in that particular area.
  • Take necessary precautions based on the Tide times .

Making sure that your guests are safe and relaxed after a day at the beach, will go a long way in helping your beach wedding day to be successful too.

Do try out one of my favorite barbecue recipes;

MUSTARD BARBECUE SAUCE

1 cup prepared yellow mustard
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon cayenne

Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and simmer on low for at least thirty minutes. This is great for any barbecued meat.(according to my taste buds)

and for those with a sweet tooth try out one of my favourite deserts cooked on the grill;

GRILLED APPLE STREUSEL

1/2 cup quick-cooking oatmeal
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup butter, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
4 large baking apples, cored and cut in half
melted butter

1. Prepare the topping the night before or in the morning of the barbecue.

  • Combine oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
  • Add the butter and work it in evenly with a fork or your fingertips until it they resemble breadcrumbs.
  • Drop in the pecans and refrigerate until desert time.

2. On the day of the barbecue,

  • Cut apples into halves.
  • Brush the cut side of the apples with the melted butter.
  • Arrange the apples cut side down on the grill and cook over medium heat for twenty minutes. Turn them once after ten minutes.
  • Spoon the topping onto the cut side of the apples. Cook for another five minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and glazed. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.Note this works best on a covered grill.

Enjoy!

What a great idea, if I ever decide to take the plunge I'd like it to be on the beach.

Thanks for stopping by Hugh Chism.

When you do decide to take the plunge, be sure to stop back here for all things beach wedding.

Mmmm. Apple Streusel. My mom's German, so I grew up on that stuff. Her family will be so delighted if I serve it at my beach wedding!
