The casual atmosphere at the beach calls for a much more casual mode of transport than a limousine.Though it may not be such a good idea cycling to the wedding ceremony, since you don't want to end up drenched in sweat buy the time you walk down the isle.Save the cycle for after the ceremony when you and the groom make your getaway.Other fun getaway 'car' alternatives, ideal for beach wedding locations include roller blades, skateboards, motorcycles, horses.

Ok enough of the fun stuff, let's get back to planning the transport for your beach wedding.

Essentially there are three aspects to consider ,

  • transport for the bride
  • transport for the groom
  • guests and/or
  • the wedding getaway car. This can be either the bride or groom's mode of transport or if you opt for one of the fun means of transport listed above then you may consider getting the best-man and maid of honor drop the bride and groom at the ceremony. After the ceremony you can make you getaway on your horse or bike.

GETTING THE GUESTS TO YOUR BEACH WEDDING

  • If you've got a lot of people coming in from out of town, are hosting the wedding events at several different locations, or are having the ceremony in a hard-to-find or hard-to-get-to location, consider renting minivans and shuttle buses, this way you will have all your guests taken care of and don't need to worry about anyone getting lost or being late.
  • Another plus is not worrying about parking space for all your guests if they come in one vehicle.
  • Guest can also indulge in the festivities without having to worry about having designated drivers for the trip back to their lodgings.
  • Expect to pay approx $75 to $100 per hour for this kind of mass transit. For a fun alternative, charter a 1920s-style trolley or a double-Decker tour bus.
  • Alternatively if you are not providing transport then the least you could do is provide a list of local rental agents and taxi companies.
  • If you don't have a bus going back to the hotels and are leaving in a different car, you should at least make sure transportation is arranged for the bridal party: cabs,or just enlisting a friend or family member to take each bridesmaid are all acceptable options.

HERE'S A FEW TIPS TO SEAL THE DEAL ON RENTED TRANSPORT

  • Reserve your car at least six months in advance—or more like nine if your wedding is in April, May, or June,Compare prices, and shop around to get a decent deal as prices and quality can vary.
  • Read the fine print in the contract and ask for a statement detailing the costs of the deposit and balance due. Make sure the following is in writing: the date, hours, and pickup locations; amenities; the driver's name ; the make, model, and color of the vehicle; plus cancellation and refund policies.
  • Place the smallest possible deposit on the bill—20 to 25 percent—to minimize your loss if the service winds up being less than great. Plan on tipping 15 to 20 percent, but check the contract to find out if gratuity is already included.
  • Make the final reservation in person, not over the phone. That way you can inspect the vehicle and ask which one you'll be getting. Most places won't guarantee a specific vehicle, but you can get an idea of the fleet.
  • Have a conversation with your driver ahead of time. Make sure he knows not just where you're going but how to get there to have sufficient time to get all guests to the beach wedding on time.

Once guest are taken care of, you and yours can ride off into the sunset without too much worry.

Drive safely!
