Turn Pork and Beans Into Baked Beans!
My last three hubs deal with some topics that are pretty near and dear to me but for my fourth one I thought I would post something a bit different. The other week I went to my kitchen to see what I could scrounge up and all I could find was a can of generic pork and beans, some hot sauce and a packet of powdered gravy mix. Of course I did go shopping later that day but at that moment I needed to make something quick. I poured all the contents into a bowl , mixed them up, and stuck the bowl in the microwave for a few minutes. I tasted it and it was actually pretty good but it was missing a little something. I then took a look at all of the spices I had available and for some reason reached for the cinnamon. I added a few sprinkles to the concoction and low and behold that was the missing ingredient! It was as if the spiciness of the hot sauce and the sweetness of the cinnamon complimented each other. In fact, it tasted more like baked beans than pork and beans. I had turned pork and beans into baked beans! Awesome!
So, I figured I would share this recipe with others. Even if you are not a “beans person” I still recommend you try it. Besides, it is very cheap to make. Here is what you will need to make this: 1) One can of pork and beans(any brand will do), 2) One bottle of hot sauce(any brand), 3) One packet of powdered gravy mix(preferably brown gravy but I suppose white will do), and 4) Cinnamon.
Open and pour the pork and beans into a medium sized bowl. Pour 3-5 drops of hot sauce in the bowl. Open packet of powdered gravy mix then pour about half a tablespoon into the bowl. The gravy mix helps to thicken the sauce and coats the beans. Then sprinkle some cinnamon on top, not too much. Mix everything really well then place bowl in microwave for 3-4 minutes. When microwave stops take bowl out and enjoy! Now you can invite your friends over and have them marvel at the sight of you turning pork and beans into baked beans!
