Your favourite pocket watch is famous. Here's a quick list of the appearances it's made:

There is this American TV series, 'The Voyagers', where a travel time device called the Omni is disguised as a mechanical pocket watch.

In another TV series, 'Doctor Who', a mechanical pocket watch can be spotted. It's used by the Doctor and it's got all sorts of electronic components, and actually serves as an alarm for some planetary disaster. The Doctor also used the pocket watch to disguise his other self, the Time Lord, after he transformed into a human. One of the character's enemies also used a similar pocket watch.

Remember the animated film called 'All Dogs Go to Heaven'? There was this protagonist, Charlie, who was murdered and later found himself in heaven where he discovered that every dog had a 'life watch'. This watch was actually a mechanical pocket watch and was responsible for designating the dogs' state of life or death.

How about the Clint Eastwood film called 'A Few Dollars More'? El Indio, the villain in the film, would play musical chimes coming from a pocket watch and would kill his victim after the music stopped.

In Chrono Crusade, your favourite pocket watch is used to symbolize Rosette Christopher's contract with partner Chrono (the Chrono Crusader).

And you can't possibly miss one of Harry Potter's characters, Professor Albus Dumbledore and how he mysteriously carries around a twelve-handed pocket watch.

There is also this short story called 'The Hell-Bound Train' where a pocket watch serves as an essential plot point and symbol.

A musical pocket watch also serves as an important plot device in 'Life'.

In Bernard's Watch, both the book and the TV Series, the main character uses a pocket watch to control time. Time magically pauses with one press of the button.

And there's the classic short story called 'The Gift of Magi'. A brainchild of O. Henry, the story also features a mechanical pocket watch.

Have you seen the anime series called the Fullmetal Alchemist? Here, state alchemists get pocket watches with military symbols on them.

A mechanical pocket watch also plays a role in Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Remember when Alice chased the White Rabbit? She was actually trying to take back the pocket watch that the latter took.

An engraved pocket watch makes an appearance in the Japanese program called the Kamen Rider Den-O. The engraving 'The past should give us hope' leaves an important mark in the story.

Yet another engraved pocket watch plays a role in Gankutsuou, an anime adaptation of the classic 'The Count of Monte Cristo'. Here, Albert de Morcep receives a pocket watch inscribed with the Latin translation of 'Death is certain, its hour uncertain'.

In mainstream use, engraved pocket watches are famous gift items, with the Colibri pocket watch the most famous brand. The sentimentality that comes with the personalized engravings makes them all the more appreciated.

Go ahead and have fun shopping for your favourite pocket watches!

uhhhhh...the Omni doesn't look anything like that picture. it does loosely resemble a pocket watch in that it's small, brassish and has a flip open cover but there's zero clock work in it, no hands and there's a small globe inside.
