The financial analysts are needed by financial service industry, investment firms, insurance, banks and investment bank. This prophecy promises high salary to you. In my county, an financial analyst's salary reach 20 times higher than administrative staff.
1. Get the right education. An financial analyst supposedly have a finance degree. It will good if you get MBA degree and CFA certificate. You may consider taking series 7 and series 63 examination if you do not hold MBA degree. Some investment company consider to recruit analyst from various background like IT, biology,engineering, psych, etc. My friend who has engineering background works as financial analyst.
2. Have strong mathematics background. You should learn it because finance need calculation. If you hate math, you should not become financial analysts.
3. Learn computer skills such as word, spreadsheet (excel) and powerpoint. It will be better if you have skill in financial analysts software. Word is important for making your report. The financial analyst must know to make spreadsheet and graphs to analyze the stock price.Financial software skill is a plus for the analyst. The software will assist you to find the good investment.
4. Take some course in business, math, statistics, accounting and economics. An analyst analyze the business environment to predict the economic condition. The economic condition must affect the investment profit. Therefore, economic knowledge are needed too.In investment analysis, the analyst need to predict the share price movement. Statistics and math will help you for it. It is impossible to ignore accounting. An analyst should know balance sheet, cash flow and income statement to analyze the fundamental of company.
5. Enrich knowledge with book, magazine, journal and webs. Subscribe their famous finance blogger. The analyst must know the update information about investment.
6. Research the type of the investment such as equity, bond, precious metal, mutual fund, etc.
7. Increase your communication skill. If you cannot communicate your analysts, It will difficult to recommendation your analysis.
