So, you want to be a Chef?

Many people think that becoming a Chef is really all about cooking... well, here is a very harsh reality. It's not all about cooking... however, it is all about your passion for food! The word Chef in business takes on a great deal of responsibility and... you must possess a certain amount of business acumen to be successful!

Becoming a Chef has both advantages and disadvantages! Let's discuss them...

Advantages:

If you are truly passionate about food and cooking, then you may have what it takes to become a Chef. If you follow your passion in life, you are sure to be happy and content... and how much better can life get if you surround yourself with an abundance of fresh food. Fresh food breeds hapiness... therefore, you will be sure to surround yourself with fun-filled days.

Being a Chef can certainly be exciting too! If you enjoy a bit of pressure, then a professional kitchen will surely fulfill your needs. Whether it is an A la carte operation... or if it is catering, you will be sure to have deadilines to meet. You'll find great joy in executing meals as they are ordered... this can be stressful and you will have your share of disappointments... but there is nothing better than executing a finely cooked meal for someone to enjoy!

There are a few other advantages... please feel free to share a comment or two on the advantages of being a Chef.

Disadvantages:

The hours of operation within a professional kitchen can be a killer. Not only the hours, but the days of operation too. If you enjoy being home at night with your family... you may want to re-think becoming a professional Chef. The same goes for holidays and weekends! Do not count on having New Years Eve, Christmas, or even Thanksgiving off... that's right... you'll be cooking for those that want to pay for a well executed meal! This is the price you pay in being a Chef to fulfill your passion to satisfy anothers food cravings.

There are a few other dis-advantages... please feel free to share a comment or two on the dis-advantages of being a Chef.
