Religions. I Just Believe in Deism
67
I believe in Deism. I believe that there is a Supreme Being who created this amazing universe of ours. The sky, the earth, the water, and every living and non living thing before man. I believe that there is a God that created humans and every other form of living things. That's it.
I tried reading the Bible that people defend and depend on so much. I went to sunday masses at a Catholic church. I joined the Legion of Mary and prayed the rosary. However, it lead me nowhere for I am curious and inquisitive. I may be young but I reached the age of reason. Deism is a belief that God created the universe and that's it. He gave us free will to do whatever we want to do and therefore we do the craziest things in the world.
Reason. That is the foundation of my belief. Doing things for they are reasonable. Some do good stuff because the reason behind it is of good intentions. Some engage in bad actions for their reason may seem as good and sometimes they are only for the worse. But either way, this is what free will is all about.
We have been conditioned in an extent that we are consciously and subconsciously forced to believe something that we don't even know the basis of such belief. Christianity based its teachings, rituals, and its form of government upon the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ. The Muslims base their belief upon the Qur'an and the teachings of the prophet Mohammed. I have no formal education of these religions but those are the basics that I've known. Same with Buddhism, Hinduism, Shintoism, Taoism and all the other religions known to man. They have some artifact to base their belief on.
But is that really enough? There are so many religions out there, which one is right? Which one is credible? Which one is indisputable? I'm sure that all of you out there (especially the religious ones) would defend their religion and God. No one's arguing and fighting for God's approval and blessings. If you believe in God, then that's perfectly fine. I believe in God. The only thing is that, why do we have all of these religions if it is the same God we believe in. (Only applicable to Christianity and Islam.) And why do these religions have sub categories. Methodists, Baptists, Presbyterians and etc?
I don't have to believe in a religion. I don't think that I'm a bad person just because I don't belong in a club of "beliefs." I call myself a deist because I believe that God gave me the right and privilege to reason and to question. Question human intentions. Religion is made by man not by God. It may be inspired by God, but God didn't create a religion of people to follow. Therefore, I only believe in him and not some man made religion living through some man made artifact of basis.
The Bible. There's a book for you. I'm sure that all the things in the Bible are of good intentions. There's no doubt about that. Sure, believe in it if you want, it is your free will. But I say, reasoning is still the best for mankind. We are so uptight about the Bible that everything we see that is not in the Bible are suddenly questionable. Like Gay marriage. Why? Just because it's not in the Bible, it's not right. It may be in the Bible, but the Bible says it's not right? Just because? Would God really "hate" you or punish you just because you're homosexual and you can't help yourself that you've loved the same gender as you? These are things that we should all question. At least, I am questioning it.

If God loves us all, there shouldn't be restraints. Love the same gender as you are if you want. If God doesn't like such things, why did He even gave us the ability to love? So you mean to say there are conditions when it comes to love? That we can only love the opposite sex? Whatever happened to God's unconditional love for all His children? Is that suddenly vanished just because you're engaged in some activity that God doesn't like you doing (according to that Bible)?
These are just thoughts. I'm not trying to persuade anyone to believe what I believe in. It's just that I think, I've reached the age of reason. I'm not saying that I am right. I'm not saying that I am wrong either. I don't want to lift my own chair, but I'm sure that there are some good within me. I believe that in every person, the good is just the same number of the bad. If we all want to serve God, let's just do it in action and not in words. Not in prayers (well you can pray, if it makes you feel good) or not in just saying that you believe in Him. Spirituality is important, and for me I believe that there is a God, and that's it.
Wars, conflicts, theft, diseases, genocide, murder, rape, adultery, filth, envy, greed and etc. Why are they still present? If God really is present, wouldn't He just make these things vanish. You might say that these things exist for a purpose that we learn from them. We correct our mistakes. Well, why are there even mistakes? I know why, He gave us free will and that's it. That's it. We can do whatever we want, and I know that God is fair and loving, therefore what is the purpose of hell? He's not gonna send you there. Well He will (according to that Bible.)
I don't mean to offend anyone and I come in peace. These are just opinions and insights. I don't have all the answers but I also don't think the Bible does. It's man made and only God "inspired." Keyword: Inspired. Not created by God. I'm sure that there will be people out there that will say that God used man to write the Bible and spread the word. How about the other scriptures. And which God are you actually talking about. There are so many Gods that mankind ever knew of. Ancient Greek and Roman Gods. Don't tell me that they don't count just because.
There is a supreme being. That's it. Thank you very much for reading.

My opinion is that god created the world and there are mistakes because man SINNED. It wasnt gods plan for us to sin but the devil works in ways we can not know. God is very involved in our lives today we just choose not to listen that's the honest truth. God is so involved that he even gave us rules to keep us safe. Now i have something to ask you. If god isn't involved in our world and if he wants us to make our own rules then why would he send his one an ONLY son to die for our sins? And give us rules to live by which we DON'T follow? WHY? That's just my opinion.
To ALL you people who believe in deism im praying that you will come to the REAL truth not YOUR truth which is wrong. I may be only 13 but i do know that there IS a god who IS involved in our world we just have to come to it in our own time.
Lyla,
I understand your side. Trust me, I was a Christian. I read the Bible and practiced the religion. Unfortunately, what you believe in is only coming from one side, Christianity. Other religions would differ. So, we cannot say that Christianity is the only "right" religion.
As it is in the Qur'an. Jesus is not the son of God. Could we say that Muslims are 100% wrong. I am not religious. But I indeed believe that God (The Creator of this world) is not involved with coming up with diseases, wars, murders, theft, genocide, greed, poverty, human immoral conditions. That's just my opinion too.
All I'm saying, is let's just be good people. If Christianity is indeed the way to "salvation" then let's be safe with the choice of being good. I'm sure if Christ is indeed responsible for our soul's salvation, He would save the good people.
We have to question the scriptures sometimes. They all have contradictions. And let's observe our world, and all the opinions of others. Let's observe the unexplainable. Sometimes, we're too defensive about what we believe in and we no longer open ourselves to the other possibilities... Perhaps of discovering the right of man to reason, as we do have that right.
Deists are not bad people who believes nothing. We believe in God actually. We just don't believe that he intervenes. And if we believe in that fact, then what is so wrong with it, in the first place? We just use reasoning. Like Atheists. But we believe that there is a creator.
Thanks, Lyla for reading and for sharing your opinion.
I still dont understand how you can believe what you do no matter how hard you explain. No offense but i dont believe you were a christian. I'm sorry but i know what i believe is right and i feel that you dont care if there is a creator or not. I had to write my mind so no problem. i feel that you blame god. And he is NOT the one to blame we are. Im only 13 but i am a full fledged christian. Sorry if i offend any one but i had to write.
Lyla,
It's all good. Honestly, I was a Christian. Believed in Christ from the moment I wake up, and before I go to sleep. That was back then. I'm not blaming the creator. I am thanking Him indeed. And He is not to blame, because all the troubles we go through are made my man. Conniving, deceitful, greedy, power hungry men. Not the creator. I believe that the creator does not intervene in anyone's lives. But that's just me.
You have the right to state your opinion, and I'm sure everyone that reads this hub would appreciate your thoughts as well. Hey, even if you're only 13, I'm sure you are smart enough to stand by your grounds.
Thanks.
Well now that you put it that way your side does make sense but still the reason why he doesnt is because he gives us free will. That doesnt mean that he doesnt intervene. Thats what i dont understnad. I'm sorry if i oeffend anyone but i felt the need to state my opinion and yes i do stand my ground quite well haha. Maybe i was a little harsh and i'm very sorry i just needed to undestand how you can believe that i still dont fully understand but what you say does make sense. Thanks for helping me undderstand.

Sorry about my spelling i wasnt looking.
Lyla,
Just an equation to prove a point. Well I don't know if this will prove my crazy argument. But let's just see.
**Muslims and Christians = Believe in one God. (Monotheism)
**Christians and Muslims go to war.
**The Christian Americans/Allies say "God, please help us on this war and may we defend our country from the evils of the ones we will about to fight." = Death to their opponents.
**The Muslim Iraqis say "Allah (God), please help us on this war and may we defend our country from the evils of the ones we will about to fight." = Death to the Americans/Allies.
**Killing their brothers and fellow human beings ((WITH THE HELP of the same GOD?))
Question: If God Intervenes and He hears all of our prayers, would He let these people kill each other in His name? Hence the empty slogans, "God Bless America." or "In God We Trust."
Some would say (The ones who have been conditioned since birth to believe) "God works in Mysterious ways." or "God wouldn't give you anything you cannot handle." or "God is only testing you."
I don't see reason in Organized Religion. If he intervenes, then He is partly responsible for the gun powder, nuclear weapons, and even the knife that the murderer last night used. Because "He controls everything." If He intervenes, then He was the one who gave Einstein that idea and skill to make that Atomic Bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Not the Devil, for God may also be partly responsible for "The Devil."
Well that's just me. Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm not.
Thanks though, Lyla.

No offense but that does sound a little crazy to me. Now here is my point........ God gives us free will do to what we want he lets us make our own choices he is not going to come up and say to you dont do this or dont do that WE are the ones who make our own choices not god. WE are the ones who decide to go into war WE are the ones who murder people WE are the ones who decide that not god sure its wrong but if he just went up to people and said NO YOU CANT DO THIS it would make people move away from god not towards him. HE gives us our own mind to use it in whatever way. Unfortunatly we go down the wrong path and it makes god sad he wants us to be with him forever he wants us to make the right choice he wants to be apart of our lives but if he got in everyones face it would turn people away am i right? Just because these things happen does NOT mean that he doesnt intervene. I have heard thousands of stories that prove god is with us we just choose not to listen thats the honset truth. Well thats just me but whatever.
--Lyla
I don't believe that He intervenes. Intervenes means "controlling things here on earth. Taking part on everything." With billions of people here, and not all of them are Christian. I don't know which God most people are talking about.
I believe in the creator. But that's just it. I just believe that He created the world. So many contradictions in the Bible that even the Qur'an makes more sense than it.
And the stories that you've heard. They're poetic, great ideas. They believe that they overcame cancer because it was God. Now that doesn't "PROVE.." it only "ASSERTS." Their assertion is that because they've overcome things, it is because God "intervened." Very poetic, but not reasonable enough.
The idea of God and religion give a lot of religious people comfort. Comfort, and there's nothing wrong with that. If you believe that God gave us free will, then you're partly Deist! Free will to reason, to kill and everything.
Most of us have only been conditioned to believe. And everyone seems to be afraid to question what they see, hear, read, and etc. It's all about conditioning. Since we were born, a lot of people hammer things into our heads, and we instantly believe just because they believe. The idea that God is always with them is mythical. They used it because they have experienced good things, and they lay it on God. But when someone is in an accident, war, and they get killed. They'd say that "God has plans for that person."
God is not there to serve us and guide us, and control us. THE HONEST TRUTH. As believed by Voltaire, and our founding fathers. The Freemasons and the Philosophers of the Enlightenment era and more importantly, today's great thinkers. Deism is not a cult but a religious philosophy. God existed/exists but the does not intervene.
If he intervenes, then why is he letting bad things happen? If he fully intervenes, can he just really INTERVENE! Take part of what is going on. There are people dying of AIDS in Africa, and someone in this country would go "God, please help me on my Chemistry test tomorrow." Who would God rather help. Can't be all of us every time. He is being a MAID then. Not our God. He's doing us all a favor if we continue to ask Him for stuff.
I have a lot, a huge respect for the Creator. That is why I don't ask Him for stuff, or anything. I don't even try to divert Him into doing other things. That is impossible. If God has a plan for the world, then we have no right to alter His plan through praying.
Deists are not bad people, they're just logical, reasonable.
Thanks anyway,
Ron
First things first.Since the begining of mankind; there has been God and satan. Before there was any such mention of the word religion;it was 1God and those who followed him and his ways to be worshiped.Everything else was considered pagan. Not until the 3rd or 4th century did we have "differant religions."Catholosism brought about different religions and the word(religion)itself. It was the devils deception to bring about confusion. If we would be true to God's word and trully believe that he is one, then will we begin to understand.True monotheist is one and only one supreme being! There is no book in this entire (want to be smarter than God) world that holds up to the bible! You see the bible has one thing that no other book has(among many other things) prophecies(that have been fulfilled to a T)What other book claims or even tries that? Not that deism book thats for sure!Trinity is man made(rome)!Rome was pagan so they wanted to intertwine christianity and paganism! When it didn't work;they forced on people throughout time.People caught on eventually;when they got their hands on the bible. The book the catholics didn't allow anyone to read!So as people begin to figure the wrongs in the catholic teachings;they protested against the church! Thus we have "protestants."But... like any directions, you must follow them completely or you fail to reach your destinations!Seek ye the truth and it shall set you free!ONE LORD,ONE FAITH,ONE BAPTISM! EPHESIANS 4:5... OBEY ACTS 2:38! And to you my brother of the deist faith IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME I PRAY that he have mercy on you.Romans 1:17-22!
I am just one of the many people who don't put their whole lives over the Bible. I believe that there is only one God, the creator of this Earth. I believe that I should do the right thing and just be good to my neighbors, like you and many other people on this Earth. There is no book of Deism. Deism is not a religion. Deism is not a cult nor a group with a church. It's just a philosophical religious belief.
Christians would just disregard the Qur'an or the other scriptures. Why? Well that's their problem not mine. I my own belief, and you have yours. It just so happens that most people believe the Bible just because it was said that it is the book of God. How about the Qur'an? Isn't it what Muslims believe to be the real book of God? What makes one faith suddenly more "closer to God" than the other?
"[in regards of Deism] This new awareness of diversity led to a feeling that Christianity was just one religion among many, with no better claim than any other to correctness."
Hey Ron... Are you disclaiming the fact that the bible has so many fulfilled prophecies?I didn't see where you commented on that fact.

Ron - Great hub! You may be young but you showed you have intelligence beyond your years. This world can use more light and reason such as Deism in it. Keep up the good work.
