Bernadette Peters

I have put together in this series a list (by no means complete) of some of the most influential redheaded comediennes in my life. They've made me laugh. They've stuck in my brain. I think of them often. No one can do what they have done in the way that they've done it. I search out movies and shows that they have been in.

Each series will have a line of hubs, each dedicated to a different Frieda's favorite famous comedienne. And each line with have a feed to the rest them and a matching graphic (redhead, brunette, and blonde).

I sincerely hope that all of you enjoye this series as each hub comes out. Let me know if there are any you're looking forward to. Comments always welcome.

Enjoy.

Feel free to thumbs up any articles from this series you like! Frieda loves it when you let her know you lover her.

Bernadette Peters

Bernadette Peters. Beautiful, sexy, cute, lovely, voice of an angel, fabulous red curls. All her characters on television, in the movies, and on Broadway, braught laughs, and bring laughs, lots of them. She's got comedy down pat. She brings life to the party, you might say.

She is also a great dramatist, as you can see in The Last Best Year, where she plays a cancer victim.

Born in Queens, New York, on February 28, 1948, (Pisces), as Bernadette Lazarra.

Bernadette's acting career began at a very early age. When I say early I mean early. At three years old she was put on the children's television show, Juvenile Jury. She also appeared on Name That Tune, and The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour when she was five years old. Her professional stage debut was on This is Goggle at the age of ten. One could say that entertainment was her life.

Most of us knew bernadette for her quirky but incredible voice, her sweet pouty looks, and her femininity and sass, making us smile at just the sight of her.

Throughout her career she appeared with such stars as The Muppets (yes, I do consider them stars, don't you?), Carol Burnett, Steve Martin, and Burt Reynolds.

  • We saw her on our TV's performing in The Muppets,
  • The Love Boat,
  • Love American Style,
  • Maude,
  • Saturday Night Live,
  • The Carol Burnette Show,
  • All in the Family,
  • Paradise Lost,
  • The Odyssey,,
  • Law and Order SVU,
  • Will and Grace,
  • Boston Legal,
  • Grey's Anatimy,
  • Ugly Betty (just to name a few).
  • We watched her on the Big Screen in The Jerk,
  • Silent Movie,
  • Annie,
  • The Longest Yard,
  • Pink Cadillac (again, just to name a few).

She's done voice overs for animated characters, made recordings, been on broadway, written two children's books, starred in major solo concerts, won awards.... The list goes on and on for this busy, miraculous woman.

When we see her, we become happy. She makes us smile. She makes us laugh. We relax into her humour. Bernadette does that for us with the character roles she takes on. Just for us. You. And me.

Bernadette Peters as Betty Boop. Amazing.

Unfortunately the video I had found of Bernadette Peters as Betty Boop is no longer available.  It was truly amazing and I highly recommend one and all to try to get a hold of the movie.

If anyone knows of a valid video url they could pass on for the use of this hub, please do let me know.  It would be much appreciated.

In the mean time, on to the next clip:

Bernadette has a soft heart, and has done many a benefit in her time.  Here's an Easter skit she did with Martin Short on Broadway to raise money for  Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Saving the best for last...

One of my favorite movies of all times, and definitely my favorite Bernadette Peters movie, is The Jerk, where she plays with leading man Steve Martin.

The following scenes is the funniest, sweetest, loveliest, kookiest love scene in town. I could watch it a million times over and never tire. There has never been a more perfect rendition of this song.  Bernadette Peters and Steve Martin's  voices meld like the waves in the background.  It's truly mesmerizing.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Isn't she a hot cutie?! Was remembering we never did watch it. Isn't she incredible in that? I'm amazed. We've got to rent that one!

I fell in love with her many moons ago. Oh what a cuteness she has and legs with cleavage too. Oh my. I think she is gay though, that's OK, but I think I read that somewhere, broke my heart it did. Nice surprise dear one, thanks.

I don't think so, is she? She was married and her husband died. She's never had any kids, but I don't think she wanted any. Maybe she is. I'm so sorry about that. I'm sure you kept your fantasies going, right? ;)

Triplet Mom, she so does rock. And sexy is right. I'm thinkin' she knows it.

Aidy, yeah, she is. She blonded and straightened her hair earlier in her career for showbiz. I wasn't sure myself, but she's got tight red curls, that's her natural self, it's not permed. She dyes it a bit stonger of a red now I think.

What stellar casting to put her with Megan Mullaly on Will and Grace. Well done, again Frieda! Thank you! PS..I gotta come back and watch Martin Short.. I ran outta time...

Hi Janetta. Thanks. Her voice is adorable, isn't it? And jeez the things it can do. The Jerk is one of my all time favorites, too. I debated putting in a clip but I'm still looking for one in particular. So when I find it, I'm sticking it in.

Thanks Cris. Oh my goodness. Well, Melanie is a good one. I always enjoyed her as well. But, not quite Bernadette. Thanks for the read. :)

She is a lot of fun to watch Jewels. I bet she would have been wonderful to watch on Broadway!

Bernadette is definitely one of my favorite actresses of all time. I don't believe you that she was born in 1948 though. She just looks so much younger.

Frieda Babbley profile image

Frieda Babbley  says:

Good to see you jim10! Doesn't she though!  I know.  I don't know know what she does to keep herself so gorgeous.  I wish I knew.  But it is true.  I'm going to assume that she dies her hair at this point, wouldn't you?  That makes a difference I'm sure.  And I don't believe she's had any kids.
