Pocket Knives

Every outdoorsman wants the best pocket knife on him when the time comes to use one.  Pocket knives a must for most outdoorsman but having a good pocket knife can be essential for everyday life as well.

The Best Pocket Knife

Obviously there are many different pocket knives to choose from.  Many are cheap and not really built for much use other than an emergency.  Here are a few ways to decide which pocket knife is best for you.

  1. Will you be doing mostly cutting with your pocket knife?
  2. Do you need a multiple blades pocket knife?
  3. Do you want tools along with a blade on your pocket knife?

These questions are important as there are different makes for the best pocket knife in each of the above catagories.

If you need one just for simple cutting situations, the best pocket knife for you would be one that is made with just a single blade on one end and folds to safely carry in your pocket.  This is often reffered to as a jack knife and is a very classic style pocket knife to carry.  Wood hadles can be very ornate but not always ideal.  The best jack knife would be one with a rubber handle or a good texture.  This will make holding your jack knife comfortable in any climate and easy to hold on to in wet conditions.

For some, the best pocket knife needs to have multiple blades.  These are sometimes referred to as pen knives and have a few different blades to pick from, each made for a different job.  These pen knives are typically fairly small and not made for extreme cutting so much as they are built so that you always have the right kind of knife you need at all times.

Some people need tools along with their pocket knives and for this the best pocket knife is a multi-blade knife.  This is your boy-scout style knife, or your swiss army knife.  These pocket knives have everything from a regular knife blade to tweezers built inside of them and are usually not to large in size.  They are great to have around as an all purpose tool, ready for anything.

There are a great many brands to select from when looking for your best pocket knife so be sure to shop around and stay away from cheaper pocket knives that will not last you past the first use.

Over the years I have spent a fortune on knives trying to find a good one. Overall I have found the more do-dads and gadgets attached usually the knife quality goes down. Stick with something simple and it usually is decent.
