Best Youth Basketball Plays

Young kids should be able to play organized basketball. Since the game isn’t overly taxing on any part of the body and the risk of injury is fairly low, there isn’t any reason why younger kids shouldn’t be playing basketball. However, the game should be kept as simple as possible for the younger kids. Therefore the best youth basketball plays are the ones that are easy to understand and simple to run.

Before teaching any plays, including the best youth basketball plays, kids should simply be taught how to play basketball. Kids should be taught how to move without the ball. They should also be taught how to screen defenders and how to use screens to get open. However, as much as possible, kids should just be left to play basketball without running too many plays.

Basketball plays are a part of the game so a few of the best youth basketball plays should be introduced. The easiest place to start these plays is on inbound plays. Inbound plays give the coach a chance to call the play and they allow the players to think about what they have to do while there is a stoppage in play..

For inbound plays that are on the offensive end of the court, on the baseline to the left or to the right of the basket, the best youth basketball plays involve stacking four players on the side the ball is going to be inbounded on. Each of these players should be standing shoulder to shoulder. The fifth player will inbound the ball.

Because it is youth basketball, the defense will probably d-up on the inside of all the players who are stacked. When the player inbounding the ball slaps the ball, one offensive player will step back a couple steps and the rest of the players will close off the hole in effect walling off all the defenders. This will give the player who stepped back a wide-open shot.

Exactly who takes the shot is up to the coach. Each offensive player has a number, usually according to the position they’re playing, and the coach will call out the number of the player who should be stepping back and taking the shot. This player needs to line-up in one of the two middle slots in the line.

The player inbounding the ball should go to the basket right after making the inbound pass. This is to try to grab a rebound if the shot is missed and it also may work for a give-and-go if the defense fails to cover the inbounder and the player with the ball can pass the ball well enough to get it over the defense to the basket.

The best youth basketball plays for younger kids are the ones that are easy to understand and just as easy to perform. For the most part kids should be allowed to play the game. Kids shouldn’t be forced to think too much while they’re out on the court. Therefore, the best youth basketball plays are the ones that don’t ask kids to think too much while they’re playing basketball.
