What about Bushs? The senior and the junior? They used a country's whole resourses and power to consolidate their interests in petroleum! Do you think the US or anyone else in the world benifited from their wars for oil?

Their names didn't cross my mind perhaps due to the reason you highlighted. Those were wars and not exactly in the best interest of the mankind. It's tough to include them in this elite list, especially with people who are philanthropic by nature..Thanks for the comments,Sunsix!

I like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet. Gates is not only a $80 billion dollar-genius but also very generous man. Because he will not inherit his children. Only $10 milion will be given to each of them, and the rest will be divided to charities. He said "I won't leave a lot of money to my heirs because I don't think it would be good for them."

For Warren Buffett, the famed Berkshire-Hathaway investor whose $36 billion in assets make him the second-richest man in the world, once quipped: "The idea that you get a lifetime of food stamps based on coming out of the right womb strikes at my idea of fairness."

For me, there are people to be admire for their compassion and quest for fairness. And they know that wealth is not the only asset in life. And to share this vision to others, especially to their children is priceless.

You know what, I think the greatest Business Mind of all times was the British East India Company. They came to India for spices and cotton and ruled it for almost 200 years. Thanks to their business acumen, they turned England into a "developed" nation!

I agree with your choice, except for the Lakshmi Mittal. He is amazing in making huge money, but also amazing in terrible conditions and low payment in his companies in developing countries. I was reading more about his companies and I felt sick. I do not respect him at all, even though I have met him in London, already. A Man of his position could have a better team to care about basic humanity issues, considering his employees, who are creating his fortune, if he is not capable of feeling that.

bluewings profile image

Well, yes, I have been following him in the news and from the recent reports that hit the screens I will have to admit that he isn't among the best employers the world has seen. With his power and wealth , the least he should be doing is to keep his employees smiling.Ignoring them is not what a man with foresight would do and certainly not the best business brain.I will have to make some changes to this hub as much for the fact that there have been some new entrants in the business world since the time I created this hub. Thanks for sharing your views, Solar!

Lakshmi Mittal is still world's top financial expert and one of the richest people on this planet, so he belongs to every rich list.

Many employees lost their lives in a very bad working conditions in the process of creating his wealth. They had left their families for ever. He could very easily help at least to the children of his employees, who has been dying in his companies all over the world. He is behaving extremely luxurious in London and just a fraction of the wealth he is spending for ridiculously luxurious items and services could profoundly change the lives of those children.

Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet have dedicated large sums of their personal wealth to the charity. Warren Buffet was so impressed by Bill Gates charity BMG (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation), that he gave more than $30 billion to them, because he believes, that they work better, than he would have done. Warren Buffet says, that he would double every sum, Bill and Melinda put into the their charity.

Yes, and look where he is now.He is already the richest man in the world , but what should win him more respect and love is his selfless beneficence towards the society. Not too many capitalists can claim to be as conscientious as Mr Buffet. It's hard to look past him!
